Before we delve a little deeper into the phone’s shatterproof technology let’s take a quick glance at the specification on the Moto X Force.

Motorola Moto X Force – specifications

The Moto X Force has a 2 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3 GB RAM, 32 GB internal memory, 5.4-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, an amazing 3,760 mAh battery unit, 21 megapixel rear camera, and a 5 megapixel front facing camera. Well, Motorola decided they were going to up the ante a little bit and offer something no brand has offered thus far – a shatterproof smartphone.

How shatterproof is the Moto X Force?

The Moto X Force comes with the groundbreaking ShatterShield technology. But we have heard arguments about several phones which claim they have the best glass technology on board that prevents the device’s display from cracking. For far too long consumers have been told that they have the best phone but they should still try and be careful about dropping the phone. Well, all that is about to change with the Moto X Force.

Here is Motorola Mobility President Rick Osterloh with what Motorola calls the shortest press announcement ever:

The ShatterShield technology makes a promise no shock-absorbing smartphone display technology before it has promised. The promise of a shatterproof screen is more than simply a nice feature to have. It is often the most important feature that consumers seek when they decide to invest in an expensive smartphone.

Let’s take a closer look at exactly how the Moto X Force became shatterproof.

The Moto ShatterShield technology brings together 5 layers that absorb shock and render the intensity of the shock almost harmless. From top to bottom here are the five layers that combine to make the Moto X Force’s screen.

  • Layer 1: The Exterior Protective Lens – This is a protective layer which has a proprietary hardcoat which aids in guarding against dents and abrasion.
  • Layer 2: Interior Lens – This is a transparent protective lens that, according to Motorola, will not crack or shatter.
  • Layer 3: Dual touch layer – If your Moto X Force falls and suffers damage despite the two above layers and the primary touch-sensitive layer is affected, a secondary layer still continues to function perfectly and allows you to use your touchscreen without noticing the damage to the primary touch layer.
  • Layer 4: Stunning AMOLED display – The flexible AMOLED display does here exactly what it does in other smartphones. It absorbs shock and provides amazing picture quality. It’s utility is enhanced by the fact that it has 3 layers on top of it that protect it from experiencing any immediate shocks and impacts.
  • Layer 5: Aluminium chassis – The last layer is that of a rigid aluminium chassis that provides structural integrity and durability.

A number of YouTubers have taken it upon themselves to test whether the Moto ShatterShield technology really is all that it claims. Here are folks at TechRax trying their level best to shatter the Moto X Force, but much to their surprise and delight, the Moto X Force survives all shatter and shock tests that ordinary smartphones cannot. In this test the phone does stop functioning when the hammer came down on it with great impact but even the hammer was not able to shatter the display of the Moto X Force. This is well and truly a shatterproof phone.

If this truly remarkable technology still seems beyond real to you then allow the Motorola team which worked on making the ShatterShield technology a reality explain to you how it all came together.
