In the last few years HTC has come up with a range of high-end and budget phones that have been lapped up by the gizmo geeks. HTC is all set to step-up the competition in the market for budget phones with Desire 530, an advanced smartphone the company will commercially launch by the end of this month. Amongst the pluses of HTC Desire 530 that deserve a mention are its sleek and navigable UI, powerful battery, 4G compatibility, quad-core processor and robustness.

The phone is priced at a not-too modest Rs. 14, 299. Let’s examine how fittingly does the HTC Desire 530 stand up against other brands of budget phones?

Specifications – HTC Desire 530

The phone has a 4.7 inch display size but it comes with a mediocre resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. A big screen with qHD display and a pixel density of 234 ppi throws up images, pictures, and illustrations that won’t be as vivid or breathtaking as HTC phones are known to reflect.  However, it is expected that this drawback of the phone will be compensated by the attractive form factor, another feature HTC mobiles are reputed for.

The perfectly rounded edges of the phone’s bezel combined with an attractive framework augments its overall appeal by several notches. Additionally, its body made from polycarbonate material lends the gadget an extraordinary robustness. The phone is lightweight and therefore quite a pleasure to carry. Holding the phone while making and receiving calls is also pleasurable as the bezel thickness or rather thinness renders it compact.

The phone is equipped with a highly advanced quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor that gets a boost with the proprietary HTC Sense 7 UI. It is also powered by an Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

The HTC Desire 530 is compatible with 2G, 3G, and 4G LTE broadband and cellular networks (LTE, GPRS, and EDGE). Additionally, the device is compatible with Wi-Fi, USB, and Hotspot Tethering, enabling you to set it up with a range of other gadgets compliant with these connectivity technologies for creating backups of different types of files and folders.

The RAM of the phone is a letdown with just 1.5 GB which means you can’t expect to enjoy your favorite videogames in all their glory. An internal memory of 8 GB expandable up to 32 GB with a microSD card offers you sufficient room for archiving your database.

The dual cameras of Desire 530 are not exactly the camera units you can brag about. Photography buffs are certainly not going to shriek in delight when they discover that the main camera is an 8 megapixel unit while the front facing camera is a 2 megapixel unit. Other camera features on the HTC Desire 530, such as LED flash, f/2.2 lens, and BSI Sensor are also quite commonplace.

The phone gets a modest fillip with its 2000 mAh Lithium-ion battery which when fully charged delivers good talk-time and standby time. The phone comes packed with a slew of handy apps like A-GPS and GLONASS that help you to find your way easily and quickly in any corner of the world. You can also make good use of some of the signature features like HTC Themes, HTC Sense Home, and HTC BlinkFeed. Two speakers facing you reflect the best quality of audio that will simply be music to your ears.

Pricing of HTC Desire 530

The HTC Desire 530 carries a price tag of Rs 14,299 which seems a bit on the higher side as there are many other smartphone brands that are offering pretty much the same specs but at a lower price. At this price, the HTC Desire 530 is certainly not filled to the brim with features.

Of course there are some features, not exactly standalone, that seem to justify the price tag of the phone including the 4G and the powerful processor but even these are becoming commonplace now.

Will the HTC Desire 530 live to up to the expectations?

The HTC Desire 530 just falls short of being labeled as a high-value smartphone largely because of its poor screen resolution and low RAM rating. If you’re willing to overlook the screen resolution aspect (which really would be a sacrilege considering this attribute affects all other specs) and remain content with snapping candid shots, then grab it as soon as it goes on sale.
