huawei-p9Huawei is one Chinese tech giant that has been gradually creating a niche market for its smartphones by coming up with innovative tweaks in every successive or subsequent launch. The conglomerate has also mastered the art of building up a lot of hype around its launches that result in generating unprecedented interest in its upcoming gadget releases. For instance, Huawei has taken to garnering as much hype as possible around the release of the P9 – the successor to its flagship phone – the P8 – which failed to make a dent because of software glitches.

We were looking forward to its launch at the CES in January 2016 but Huawei launched the Mate 8 making aficionados and enthusiasts forecast that the firm will unveil the P9 in MWC, Barcelona. Contrary to everybody’s expectations, Huawei made public its first hybrid gadget – the Huawei MateBook – which is actually a laptop-cum-Tablet. If we go by the latest rumors doing the rounds on several websites, the P9 will be released sometime in the first week of April 2016, most probably on 6th April.

Huawei P9: What is the form factor going to be like?

There is, of course, a lot of speculation on how the P9 will look like.  You’ll see numerous images of the purported P9 on several portals that may offer you a fair idea about the smartphone’s appearance. But these illustrations might be doctored or rendered, so you can never be too sure about the P9’s looks until the phone debuts. As per the grapevines abounding in CNMO, a China-based website, the P9 will largely resemble its predecessor – the Huawei P8 – in design because it’ll have a fully metallic framework.

However, the edges of the P9 will be more roundish and that will, to some extent, set it apart from the P8. P9, it is rumored, will have a distinct home button that perhaps will be the most striking difference between the two phones. Till now, no P-series handset has sported a home button. If one goes by the pictures and representations posted on the websites, the backside of P9 will have two cameras juxtaposed by a fingerprint scanner.

The touch-screen will measure 5.2 inches diagonally and the bezel will be exceptionally slender making the handset appear extremely sleek. Furthermore, the camera at the front and the ambient light sensor will be on one end of the speaker instead of bordering it. Then again, gossip-mongers are spreading the word that Huawei will release not one but four models of the P9 – P9, P9 Max, P9 Lite, and P9 Premium.

The last or the 4th model – P9 Premium – will be markedly different from the first three in that it’ll have two cameras of 12 megapixels. Of course, the P9 will have a display screen that will be a tad larger as well. You’ll be able to select from 4 color options as far as the P9 is concerned – pink, white, gold, and silver.

Display Specs: Huawei P9

Rumor mills increasingly opine that the screen resolution of P9 will be of 2560 x 1440 pixels with a Quad HD display. Additionally, the screen will be of 5.2 inches exploiting AMOLED display technology. On the other hand, the screen size of P9 Lite will be just 5-inches and that of the P9 Max 6.8 inches. With respect to the P9’s internal hardware, Huawei is being increasingly secretive about the same. Still, word is out that the handset will feature a Kirin processor with a 950 chipset and octa-core 64-bit architecture same as that of the P8.

Other buzzes point to the P9 being powered by a Kirin 955 chipset that’ll get a boost from a 6 GB RAM whereas some reports peg the RAM at 4 GB. The battery going into the handset will have a rating of 3,900 mAh that will charge up rapidly, thanks to a built-in C-type USB. This battery will also power a T880 GPU from Mali offering you a pleasurable gaming experience.

Rumors also hint towards a likely team up with Leica – the celebrated camera maker for implanting dual lenses into the digital cameras touted to have a resolution of 12 or 13 megapixels. Huawei will run its own proprietary EMUI based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. One can also look forward to the power saving functionalities but there won’t be major tweaks on the software front. Finally, the phone is expected to be priced around Rs. 46,999 in Indian markets.
