Let’s take a quick glance at the specifications on the Panasonic T50.
Specifications – Panasonic T50
The Panasonic T50 sports a 4.5 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The T50 boasts of a 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor alongside a 1 GB RAM and an internal storage of 8 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB via a microSD card. The primary camera of 5 megapixel comes with LED flash and auto focus while the secondary camera is a 2 megapixel unit.
The dual SIM smartphone supports most standard connectivity options including 3G but does not support 4G connectivity. The battery capacity on the Panasonic T50 is 1600 mAh, which isn’t much compared to what some of its competitors are offering. The phone is powered by the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
The Panasonic T50 comes with SAIL UI
While the specifications on the Panasonic T50 aren’t much to write home about the company has taken great efforts to ensure that the user experience on the phone is good. The phone comes with the SAIL UI, which is Panasonic in-house user interface and the company is marketing the T50 entirely around the software brilliance of its smartphone.
Our latest introduction in the Indian market is a novelty because it arrives with the launch of Panasonic’s in-house software, the SAIL user interface. The UI is even integrated into a specialized SAIL camera. It is an app-driven smartphone which combines 3G connectivity and multi-app smoothness for a flawless user experience in a handheld device.

While it is not new for smartphone brands to offer their own customized UI on their products what is new is that companies are now adopting this feature as a selling point. There is no doubt that the SAIL UI must be a fruit of Panasonic R&D team’s labor and as Mr. Rana pointed out it would offer a ‘flawless user experience’ but calling this development ‘a novelty’ is where the novelty truly lies.

We have noted previously that a number of brands have started to market their smartphones from the software perspective. Bangalore based Indian company Creo announced its Mark 1 smartphone recently and Intex launched its Intex Aqua Fish smartphone which is powered by the new Sailfish OS from Jolla. While these two developments are certainly more praiseworthy than an improvement in the theme’s skin, it is evident that more and more brands will now want to take that route from their own perspective.
Panasonic’s SAIL UI is novel in that it is integrated with the smartphone’s camera and several other apps on the phone giving the T50 a different look and feel and perhaps, a different user experience. However, we must not forget that ‘different’ is not automatically ‘better’. We will reserve our verdict on the Panasonic T50’s SAIL UI until we get our hands on it but if you are looking for a different UI on your new budget phone, the Panasonic T50 might be what you are looking for.
