Samsung has introduced an interesting new smartphone in the budget phone segment. The new Samsung Galaxy J3 is here and it looks like a pretty good phone for Rs. 8,990.
Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on the Samsung Galaxy J3.
Specifications – Samsung Galaxy J3
The Samsung Galaxy J3 comes with a 5 inch Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 294 ppi. The phone comes with a 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor and a Mali-400 GPU. It’s interesting to note that while its competitors are willing to offer much higher RAM configurations Samsung continues to stick to its strategy of saving premium specs for high-end phones.

The internal storage on the Galaxy J3 is 8 GB, which is expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot. The phone has an 8 megapixel primary camera with LED flash, digital zoom, and auto focus. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit. The dual SIM phone also has support for most standard connectivity options including 4G connectivity. It weighs a mere 138 grams which is a good weight for its form factor.
The Galaxy J3 comes with a 2600 mAh battery. While that may not sound spectacular for a phone that costs almost Rs. 9,000 but it is still a pretty capable battery configuration for a budget phone. The Galaxy J3 is powered by the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
Other Samsung Galaxy J series phones
Samsung’s J series has seen an interesting line up of products. The J series has often served as Samsung’s mid-range and budget phone series. There are a number of J series phones that live up to the moniker of “quality budget phone” or “quality mid-range phone”. Perhaps the two most well known recent products from the Galaxy J series have been the Samsung Galaxy J5 and the Samsung Galaxy J2.
The Galaxy J2 is the predecessor to the Galaxy J3. The phone has a few specs that would qualify as second best to the Galaxy J3 and perhaps the most noticeable of them is the screen size of the Galaxy J2. The Galaxy J2 came with a 4.7 inch display while the Galaxy J3 has improved upon the screen size and sports a 5 inch display. Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy J5 also has a 5 inch display and specs which would be considered mostly at par with the Galaxy J3.
The Samsung Galaxy J3 is being promoted as one of the best J series phones from Samsung. While the specifications on this phone may not be spectacular the fact remains that when it comes to design the Galaxy J3 is a good looking phone with a very decent form factor. The dimensions of the phone are 142.3 x 71 x 7.9 mm and, as mentioned before, the phone weighs a mere 138 grams.
Most modern day smartphone consumers who are exposed to some very unique gadgets may find the Galaxy J3’s design too formal for comfort. This is a pretty usual complain for Samsung phones. Some people believe they all look alike. But how does that negate the smartphone’s overall appeal? The answer is simple. It doesn’t. So if you are someone who doesn’t create a fuss over similarity in smartphone design (a very obvious commonality) then there is a good chance you will enjoy using a Samsung Galaxy J series smartphone. Why not try the Samsung Galaxy J3?
