Lenovo has recently launched two new smartphones under its ZUK brand. The Lenovo ZUK Z2 Pro is a total beast that comes with the latest Snapdragon 820 processor and a 6 GB RAM. But its cousin, the Lenovo ZUK Z1, a mid-range phone, has been in the news recently. It does seem that Lenovo’s new brand has already started picking up momentum. Let’s take a quick look at the specifications on the Lenovo ZUK Z1.

Specifications – Lenovo ZUK Z1

The Lenovo ZUK Z1 comes with a 5.5 inch IPS display that has a pixel density of 401 ppi. The phone boasts of a 2.5 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, which isn’t the latest Snapdragon processor, but it’s still a very powerful unit. The processor does get a boost thanks to the 3 GB RAM and the Adreno 330 GPU on the phone. The internal storage on the ZUK Z1 is 64 GB, which is definitely a shot in the arm for a mid-range phone.

The phone has a 13 megapixel primary camera with LED flash and auto focus, while the secondary camera isn’t too bad either. It’s an 8 megapixel unit. Other camera features include Optical Image Stabilization, geo-tagging, touch focus, and face detection. The dual SIM ZUK Z1 supports 4G connectivity among other standard connectivity options.

One of the biggest plus points for the ZUK Z1 has to be its incredible battery. The phone comes with a 4100 mAh battery that the company claims will allow for a talktime of up to 48 hours on a 4G network and a standby time of up to 526 hours, also on a 4G network. Those are quite staggering numbers from a 4G network perspective. The ZUK Z1 has perhaps the best battery among all the mid-range devices available in the market today under Rs. 14,000. Though Gionee might have something to say about that.

Despite its form factor the phone weighs only 175 grams. Another interesting bit about the ZUK Z1 is its choice of operating system. The phone is powered by Cyanogen OS 12.1 and can be upgraded to Cyanogen OS 13, which is based on the latest Android version – Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. The reason I call this an interesting choice is that despite OnePlus’ various attempts at pushing the Cyanogen OS and making it more mainstream with its devices the OS hasn’t impressed everyone in the tech community yet.

There is a certain level of customization that the Cyanogen OS offers but that’s about all that differentiates it from the previous versions of Android operating systems. Whether or not Lenovo’s decision to go with the Cyanagone OS pays off or not we will soon find out.

The Lenovo ZUK Z1 has had a spectacular opening during its first flash sale on Amazon

If there were any doubts about the excitement surrounding the ZUK Z1 they have been laid to rest now. The first flash sale of the ZUK Z1 on Amazon was a huge success, according to Lenovo. The company received 3 lakh registrations in the first two weeks and sold 25,000 units in its first flash sale. The second flash sale is scheduled for May 26 and the registrations for it are already open so you might want to hurry up.

This spectacular reception to smartphones is not new but it certainly shows that in the ZUK Z1 Lenovo has found another winner. It maybe too early to say this but in the ZUK brand Lenovo might have found it’s own Motorola (pun intended).
