Nextbit has finally launched its much awaited smartphone – the Nextbit Robin. In an age where finding solutions for digital storage is a goldmine opportunity Cloud Computing has revolutionized storage. Some of the biggest start-ups in the past decade have had cloud storage at the core of their business. Smartphone storage has also seen a gradual move towards cloud storage with a number of companies trying to their best to make cloud storage solutions as efficient as possible.

This is why the Nextbit Robin is a bit of a special case. The device has cloud storage deeply integrated into its functionality. Let’s take a look at the specifications on this phone.

Specifications – Nextbit Robin

The Nextbit Robin comes with a 5.2 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The display is protected from accidental damages by the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 technology. The phone boasts of a 1.8 GHz Hexa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 MSM8992 processor and a 3 GB RAM to boot.

The Nextbit Robin is a single SIM phone. That is worth mentioning because single SIM phones are becoming a bit of rare breed now. However, the phone is a powerful communications device because is allows for all standard connectivity options. This includes it being a 4G enabled smartphone. The phone also offers VoLTE support. When it comes to the multimedia aspect, the Robin is a very cool gadget to own. This is because it supports full HD and 4K – ultra HD video playback along with dual front facing speakers with dual amplifiers. Talk about a treat for the movie lovers who prefer their movies on a small screen.

The battery capacity on the Nextbit Robin is a decent 2680 mAh. That’s certainly not a bad specifications though with increasing improvements in battery tech on the rise some would argue Nextbit should step up its battery game in the next iteration of the Robin. The battery does support QuickCharge 2.0 so it charges pretty fast. The phone is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS so Nextbit has ensured that it has the latest Android arsenal at its disposal whenever it decides to integrate new cloud storage features to the Robin.

How does Nextbit Robin’s cloud storage work?

As mentioned above the Robin comes with a pretty decent internal storage capacity but obviously there are power users, like yours truly, out there who need a lot of storage space for their data. This is where Nextbit’s smart cloud storage solution kicks in. After you have exhausted the 32 GB on the phone you can make use of the cloud storage. Nextbit currently offers 100 GB of free cloud storage to its customers.

While cloud storage of up to 100 GB seems more than sufficient for most power users there is a possibility that some folks will still manage to run out of storage space and this is when Nextbit might want to offer some sort of premium cloud storage solution in the future.

This is certainly a very exciting phone. As you can notice in the pictures even the design of the phone isn’t run of the mill or similar to what one would mostly find on modern smartphones. This is a refreshing new smartphone from the future, or perhaps not. Perhaps the future is already upon us. The future of digital storage on devices that fit in our pockets i.e.
