Huawei has had a spectacular first half of 2016. The company’s revenue jumped 40%, its shipments soared by 25% in this period, and like a brand-possessed Huawei is showing no signs of slowing down. The company has now launched a new phone, currently only in the Chinese market. The Huawei G9 Plus here. Let’s dive into the specifications on this phone and see what it’s made of.
Specifications – Huawei G9 Plus
The Huawei G9 Plus has a 5.5 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The phone packs a powerful 2 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor alongside an Adreno 506 GPU. The G9 Plus has a 3 GB RAM to boot. The internal storage on the G9 Plus is 32 GB. It is expandable up to 128 GB using a microSD card slot.
Huawei does boast of some of the very best camera phones going around and the G9 Plus is no exception. The phone has a 16 megapixel primary camera with dual-tone LED flash, 4K video recording, Phase Detection Auto focus, a Sony IMX298 image sensor, and a 6P lens.

The G9 Plus is a 4G phone and has dual-SIM capabilities. And of course, the G9 Plus comes with VoLTE support. The dimensions on the phone are 151.8 x 75.7 x 7.3 mm. The phone weighs a good 160 grams.
The battery capacity on the G9 Plus is a bit of an interesting case. The battery capacity is essentially 3340 mAh, however, considering that this product is a bit on the higher-end of the mid-range phones that battery might not be as impressive as it seems. The G9 Plus is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
The Huawei G9 Plus could just be a variant of another Huawei phone
While the Huawei G9 Plus is being marketed as a totally new product altogether there is a good chance that this phone could very well be a variant of another phone launched by Huawei recently. The Chinese company had launched a product called Huawei Maimang 5 in July. The specs on the Huawei G9 Plus are pretty much the same as those on the Maimang 5. GizmoChina was the first to report that this product was a variant of the Maimang 5.
The Maimang 5 did have a 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage variant so it is being speculated that the G9 Plus will also have a 4 GB/64 GB variant.
Huawei has momentum going into the second half of 2016
As I mentioned earlier Huawei has basically had a picture-perfect first half. If the company continues to ship new phones at the current rate it will probably end up eclipsing its shipment achievements from 2015. Huawei had shipped 100 million smartphones in 2015 and had set itself a goal of topping that number by big margin in 2016. If current shipment rates are anything to go by the Shenzhen based company would cross that number fairly easily this year.
Huawei is among the top 3 smartphone brands in the world and is the leading Chinese smartphone brand. Huawei shipped 27.5 million smartphones in Q1 2016, which took its total global market share to 8.2%. This was a 58.4% jump for Huawei for the same quarter a year ago.
By launching specific products like the G9 Plus for China Huawei is also making sure that it maintains its lead over competitors in the China market. LeEco has recently bought controlling share in Coolpad, making it a serious competitor for the future. Huawei is smart enough to realize that it needs a clear lead at home to be able to dominate globally. The company may launch the G9 Plus in other markets, including India, a little later but it has enough products in its line-up right now to stay clear of the fourth and fifth placed brands.
