After teasing the launch of Motorola Moto E3 Power recently, Motorola has now launched a new budget phone. The Motorola Moto G4 Play has been launched in Canada but hopeful Motorola fans in India can expect to see it soon.
Motorola India has been teasing product launches every once in a while and every time it manages to generate enough pre-launch hype for, what are usually, high-quality products from the Lenovo owned Motorola. The Moto G4 Play is no different.
Here it is!

Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on this phone.
Specifications – Motorola Moto G4 Play
The Motorola Moto G4 Play comes with a 5 inch display that has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. That translates to a pixel density of 294 ppi. The phone is powered by a 1.4 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) processor with an Adreno 306 GPU to boot. The phone comes with a 2 GB RAM, which certainly makes it a ‘good performer’ candidate based on processing power and memory capabilities.
The Moto G4 Play comes with an internal storage capacity of 16 GB, which is pretty standard on budget phones, but the good news is that it can be expanded up to 128 GB using a microSD card slot. Other than that the camera configuration on the Moto G4 Play is nothing to write home about.
The primary camera on the phone is an 8 megapixel unit with LED flash, HD video recording, and 4X digital zoom. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit that will not disappoint those that want to use it for selfies because it supports burst mode. Some other camera features include auto HDR and drag to focus and exposure.
The dual SIM Moto G4 Play is a 4G enabled smartphone that unfortunately doesn’t support VoLTE. Considering the fact that VoLTE has now become a rather common feature on 4G smartphones I believe Motorola missed a trick here.

The dimensions on the Motorola Moto G4 Play are 144.4 x 72 x 9.9 mm and the phone weighs a decent 137 grams. The battery capacity on the Moto G4 Play is 2800 mAh. This would qualify as a standard battery on a budget phone but considering the fact that brands like Micromax and Intex are offering better battery specs in the same price segment as the Moto G4 Play, the battery capacity suddenly looks a bit not up to the mark. But to be fair to Motorola the very few brands with the exception of Micromax and Intex are able to dish out such battery specs at such low prices.
Intex has in fact decided to up the ante big time. The Indian smartphone powerhouse recently launched the Intex Cloud Tread, which comes with a hexa core processor and 2 GB RAM for what would qualify as a giveaway price of Rs. 4,999. The battery capacity on this particular Intex phone is 2200 mAh, which is, once again, pretty good for its price segment.
If Motorola wants to compete with the likes of Intex in the long run it will have to come up with smartphones that offer better battery capacities, simply because that is a key factor in the Indian smartphone market. Indian customers do tend to make their buying decision based largely on price and key specs such as battery capacity.
Having said that Motorola has had its own market to boast of for a quite a long time now. And by that I mean customers have been willing to buy Motorola phones by the truckloads because the iconic Motorola brand still has a ring to it.
Motorola Moto G4 Play is certainly one smartphone that Motorola will be hoping sells well in the Indian market because other than this the only other new Moto product that is likely to have an impact on the Indian market is the Moto E3 Power.
