Lava International Ltd. is an Indian smartphone manufacturing company, which was founded in 2009. The company is headquartered in Noida. According to a recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC), a reputed market research company, Lava holds the fifth position in the Indian smartphone market in terms of market share.

The most recent addition to the company’s portfolio of smartphones is the Lava P7+, which is targeted at the budget-conscious local masses. Here is a detailed look at its specifications and features.

The Lava P7+ is a dual-SIM (GSM + WCDMA) phone. With respect to multimedia, the device has FM radio. The audio player supports the MP3, AAC, 3GP, WAV, MIDI, and AMR-NB formats. The video player works with the H.263, H.264, and MPEG4 formats.

In terms of connectivity and the Internet, it has support for 2G and 3G, Wi-Fi (802.11b/g/n), Bluetooth v4.0, GPRS, EDGE, Tethering, USB 2.0, GPS, and a 3.5-mm audio jack.

Brands such as Panasonic, Micromax, and Karbonn have a strong foothold in the low-budget smartphone segment. The competitors of the Lava P7+ include models such as the Panasonic P55 Novo (8 GB), Micromax Canvas Selfie Lens, Videocon Infinium Z55 Delite, and Karbonn Quattro L50.

The Panasonic P55 Novo (8 GB), for example, seems to have a slight edge over the Lava P7+ on paper. The former has a superior 13-megapixel primary camera, which is very impressive given the price segment it belongs to.  Also, the Panasonic P55 Novo (8 GB) has a slightly larger screen and packs an Octa Core processor that is clocked a bit higher at 1.4 GHz. However, the Lava P7+ takes the cake in terms of storage options.

The Indian smartphone market saw a 17% year-over-year increase in unit shipments in Q2 (2016) according to an IDC report. The competition among the market players has been growing more intense, to say the least, and Lava seems to be feeling the heat. The Indian smartphone vendor has been focusing on expanding its reach into international markets.

Hari Om Rai, Chairman and Managing Director at Lava, recently announced that the company has partnered with Easy Group, an Egyptian cosmetics company, to expand its smartphone business into Africa. This is indeed a wise strategic decision by Lava given the fact that it generates 50% of its revenue from international sales. Moreover, Egypt is the second largest mobile phone market in Africa.

The Lava P7+, which is priced at Rs. 5,649, is available in two colors: gold and grey. Other box contents include a USB cable, user manual, warranty card, battery, headset, charger, and screen guard.

The phone comes with a one-year manufacturer warranty and a six-month warranty for accessories in the box.
