It is no secret that the nation went into crisis for a while to drain out the black money out of system with demonetisation of Rs 500/- and Rs 1000/- notes. It was an abrupt but very wise decision taken by our honourable Prime Minister to scrap the notes. It did affect business and that also includes the online giants. The online e-commerce Giant Amazon along with others paused its Cash on Delivery mode of payment during the change. But now Amazon has resumed its cash on delivery service for customers again with customers able to choose the convenient mode.

Changes made after demonetisation

Initially Amazon did stop taking orders with COD options but starting 11th November it has resumed the service and our favourite Cash on Delivery payment mode is back on track. Apart from COD mode which is now resumed Amazon also allows customers to make payment using debit or credit card along with other money wallet methods. The new of resuming the Cash on Delivery service was confirmed by one of the spokesperson of the company who said – “As of November 11, we are re-introducing CoD to enable options to pay at the time of delivery. This accommodates customers who face challenges of paying online, but are still able to use electronic instruments at delivery.”

Use of Doorstep Electronic Transaction

Amazon allows the customer to make card payments using the electronic payment method even at doorstep and all the delivery agents are trained to help customer for making the payment either with new notes or using the card payment method at doorstep. The company spokesperson also said that the percentage of digital payment has gone up. There are many initiatives taken by Amazon to help customers make the payment.

Conclusion

“We continue to focus on incentivising and helping people shift to making payments electronically online, aligned with the government’s focus,” – as said by company’s spokesperson. This indicates that electronic card payment at doorstep is highly promoted by the company. Customers can also use gift cards and get 15% incentive with maximum discount of Rs 300. It is evident that majority of the people opt for cash on delivery mode of payment which is why it was not feasible for the company to hold COD payment mode for long. With lot of incentive programs and discounts through card payment, online transactions however have rise up.
