Mobile World Congress is the world’s grandest mobile show and it lived up to its billing once again this year. Held once again in its home city of Barcelona, MWC 2016 saw some great products being showcased and some of the most eagerly awaited announcements being made. Listed below are all the major product announcements from all the major players at MWC 2016.
Samsung
After many weeks of leaks, rumors, and speculations Samsung’s new flagships were finally introduced to the world. Samsung unveiled the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge at MWC this year. Both phones have similar specs except the Galaxy S7 Edge’s larger screen and battery capacity.
The Galaxy S7 has a 5.1 inch display while the Galaxy S7 Edge has a larger 5.5 inch curved display. The phones come with an octa-core processor that is quite likely the Snapdragon 820 processor.
LG
LG has announced its much awaited new flagship – the LG G5. This phone has been in the news for its spectacular new design approach. The phone has a modular design which is being considered as the next big design approach for smartphones.
The phone also boasts of a quad-HD display and powerful dual rear cameras.
Sony
Sony Mobile broke away from the trend of launching flagship products at the MWC and introduced two upper-mid-range smartphones. The company unveiled the Sony Xperia X and the Sony Xperia XA.
Sony is known to produce smartphones with a focus on battery and camera and these two new phones in the Xperia series will be no different in that regard. It is being speculated that Sony may also retire its Z series and move forward with this new X series.
Huawei
Huawei decided to announce a Tablet this year that will likely compete with the iPad Pro, the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, and the Google Pixel C. This new Tablet from Huawei is called the MateBook and it is a 12 inch work Tablet for those who like working on the fly.
The MateBook will have 2 variants. The first will be a 128 GB model powered by Intel Core M3 processor and 4 GB RAM while the second will be a 512 GB model with Intel Core M7 processor and an 8 GB RAM.
HTC
HTC added Desire 530, Desire 630, and Desire 825 to its Desire series of mid-range smartphones. MWC was also the first time that the new HTC One X9 was showcased in Europe.
Perhaps the primary reason why HTC didn’t launch a flagship phone at the MWC this year was its current focus on pushing its highly cited HTC Vive VR system.
Xiaomi
The company that took the world by storm and was touted as the fastest growing startup in the world last year came to the MWC this year to make its presence felt and launch its much awaited new flagship product – the Xiaomi Mi 5.
Mi 5 is the successor to 2 wildly successful offerings from Xiaomi – the Mi 3 and the Mi 4 so the hype around the launch of the Mi 5 was palpable. It is also impressive that Xiaomi is now making waves globally and decided to make its intent known with its first ever MWC launch.
