You will be forgiven for mistaking us, or some other Indian media outlet, for a Chinese brand because everybody is busy telling you about Chinese smartphone brands. Well, they are taking over the Indian smartphone market and doing it with equanimity and aplomb.
Thanks to a joint venture between Internet services company Qihoo 360 and smartphone maker Coolpad, a new Chinese mobile brand recently made its debut in India. They are called QiKU and pronounced Cheeku. Their first product is already creating quite a buzz in India. Let’s take a closer look at the new QiKU Q Terra.
Specifications – QiKU Q Terra
The QiKU Q Terra is a 6 inch phablet. It has a 6 inch full HD IPS display. The phone boasts of an impressive 1.82 GHz hexa-core processor for the Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 build. While all of those specs are extremely impressive for a phone that costs Rs. 21,999, the USP of the QiKU Q Terra is its camera assembly. The Q Terra comes with a powerful dual-13 megapixel rear camera combination and an 8 megapixel front facing camera to go with them.
The dual-rear camera have an image sensor technology each. The first 13 megapixel camera comes with a Sony IMX278 sensor for capturing detailed color combinations, while the second 13 megapixel unit has a Sony IMX214 sensor for the black and white capture, which will lend better contrast and depth to the same image.

The camera technology on smartphones has improved by leaps and bounds in the last couple of years and the QiKU Q Terra is an example of this ever improving technology.
Who is Q Terra competing against in India?
This will be an interesting showdown. The QiKU Q Terra will likely emerge as a direct competitor to its Chinese counterparts – Xiaomi and OnePlus. Both of these brands have tasted good success in the Indian market recently and both have quality products in the same price range as Q Terra.
Xiaomi Mi 4 mobile is still the company’s flagship phone in India, while the OnePlus Two mobile has been a roaring success for OnePlus. While there are other phones from various other brands that fall in the same price range, the most keenly contested contest will be between the 4 Chinese brands that are taking the Indian smartphone market by storm. QiKU flagships will most definitely be competing against the upcoming flagships of Xiaomi, Gionee, and OnePlus.
