Are we seeing a strategic shift in Coolpad’s approach thanks to LeEco’s leadership?

Earlier this year Coolpad Group decided to enter into a significant relationship with another Chinese juggernaut LeEco. LeEco has become the largest shareholder of Coolpad Group and LeEco’s Founder and CEO Jia Yueting became the Chairman of the Board and Nominating Committee of Coolpad. This means that LeEco now has a say in how Coolpad operates. For the record – LeEco is now a 28.9% shareholder of Coolpad.

The two brands have worked together create their first collaborative product, the LeEco Cool1 Dual. Perhaps, the one important question that Coolpad loyalists have on their minds right now is whether or not LeEco’s influence is beginning to show in the way Coolpad operates. In other words, a strategic shift in Coolpad’s approach seems plausible.

Coolpad has certainly produced some good phones in the past and they usually produce budget phones that appeal in style and simplicity to the masses. But now for the first time Coolpad is offering a product like the Coolpad Note 5, which is a seriously good phone for its price segment. This is something that is commonly observed in LeEco products. LeEco makes some of the jazziest smartphones and other cool consumer electronics products in the market today. The one thing LeEco prides itself on is that it gets the pricing of its products right.

This is clear with the LeEco Super3 TV series and every other product that LeEco has launched recently. Coolpad Note 5 seems to be following the same philosophy. This is one smartphone that could be considered a ‘best buy’ if it remains in the same price segment as advertised.
