After a bit of a hiatus in launching mid-range smartphones, Gionee has finally launched a new one and it is yet another impressive Gionee product. We had taken a closer look at the specifications on the Gionee F103 Pro previously but let’s analyze where this phone stands when compared to the company’s own Gionee Marathon M5 Lite phone.
The Gionee F103 Pro comes with a 5 inch IPS display that has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This is a 2.5D curved edge display with Dragon Trail Protection technology. The phone comes with a 1.3 GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6735 processor alongside a Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. Add the 3 GB RAM to this fold and the F103 Pro becomes a pretty impressive performer.
The Marathon M5 Lite on the other hand comes with a 5.5 inch AMOLED display with the same screen resolution as the F103 Pro and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The M5 Lite has a 1.3 GHz Quad Core processor and a 3 GB RAM making its performance comparable to the F103 Pro’s performance.
The internal storage capacity on the F103 Pro is 16 GB, which is expandable up to 128 GB if you are willing to go for a microSD card. For a phone that’s priced Rs. 11,999 that is an impressive storage capacity once you add the max capacity microSD card. The primary camera on the F103 Pro is 13 megapixel with support for LED flash, auto-focus, HDR, and time-lapse. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit.
The Marathon M5 Lite has an internal storage of 32 GB expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot. This clearly puts the M5 Lite at an advantage since the internal storage without using a microSD card is better than the F103 Pro. The primary camera on the M5 Lite is an 8 megapixel unit while the secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit, so the F103 Pro does have an edge if you take into account the camera configuration of the two phones.

The Gionee F103 Pro is a dual-SIM phone with support for 4G connectivity. And yes it does support VoLTE, which means if you are looking for great audio quality in a phone during a call, the F103 Pro will not disappoint you. The dimensions on this phone are – 145.3 x 70.5 x 8.5 mm. The phone weighs 142 grams, which is pretty impressive for its form factor.
The Marathon M5 Lite is also a dual-SIM phone with support for 4G connectivity though it does not support VoLTE. The dimensions on this phone are – 143.00 x 69.90 x 8.50 mm. At 182 grams it does weigh a lot more than the F103 Pro.
The battery capacity on the F103 Pro is probably its only drawback according to me. The phone comes with a battery capacity of 2400 mAh. We know that Gionee has produced much better batteries than this one. In fact Gionee is credit with revolutionizing battery tech in the mid-range price segment phones. The Marathon M5 Lite comes with a brilliant battery capacity of 4000 mAh. Why the company that has produced incredible battery tech on its Gionee Marathon series phones will continue to produce average battery capacity in the F series is beyond me.
The company claims that the battery on the F103 Pro will boast of a talktime of up to 28.57 hours on a 2G network and 13.41 hours on a 3G network on single full charge. The phone is also expected to have a standby time of up to 369 hours on a 2G network, 387 hours on a 3G network, and 235 hours on a 4G network. While this may seem impressive to an extent the fact remains that nobody buys a smartphone based on its amazing standby time offer. So if Gionee really wants the F103 Pro to be referred to as a 4G phone it needs to ensure that talktime on a 4G network is what should really count, especially if you are going to boast of offering VoLTE support on your product.
The Gionee F103 Pro is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS, which is expected of Gionee by now. If you are looking for a great Gionee product you may want to check out some of the other awesome Gionee phones on iSpyPrice, but even though the F103 Pro is overall an impressive product, the fact that Gionee possesses better products in another lineup makes me want to recommend the Gionee Marathon series over the F series. However, that doesn’t take away from the F103 Pro’s elegant design and impressive processing power.
Go for it if the F103 Pro appeals to you as an overall package and you are okay with an average battery. Go for the M5 Lite if battery capacity is of utmost importance to your buying decision. After all, at Rs. 12,149 the M5 Lite is priced only a tad bit more than the F103 Pro.
