Not too long ago we reported that Microsoft was planning to unveil a Surface Phone as part of its efforts to push the Windows 10 OS to the masses and make it mainstream even in the mobile ecosystem. To be honest, Windows 10 is the first OS that gives Microsoft a chance at competing with Apple’s iOS and Google’s industry dominating Android OS.

Now it seems that Microsoft is taking a two-pronged approach to help Windows 10 establish itself as a serious OS even in the mobile space. Other than launching its own smartphones and Tablets, such as the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL mobile and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Tablet, Microsoft is also allowing other brands to take advantage of the Windows 10 ecosystem, thereby expanding its reach through other OEMs.
Now one of the most famous consumer electronics companies in the world is joining the Windows 10 brigade. Hewlett-Packard (HP) will unveil its first Windows 10 powered smartphone in 2016 and chances are that it will be in the first half of 2016.

HP is expected to announce what is being reported as the HP Falcon flagship smartphone during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Let’s take a quick look at the rumored specs on the HP Falcon.
Rumored specifications – HP Falcon
The HP Falcon is rumored to boast of a 5.8 inch display. Considering the Windows 10 layout and interactivity quotient, it does make sense to launch a phablet when you are planning on launching a flagship powered by the Windows 10 OS.
The phone is also likely to boast of the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. Microsoft has been aggressively pushing the Windows Continuum feature of late and if you want an OS that delivers on its promise of providing a similar experience on phone and the desktop then you need hardware that enhances the software’s capabilities. This is why the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor will be a great addition to the HP Falcon phone.

The HP Falcon is also rumored to have a 2 GB RAM and a 64 GB internal storage. Looking at the processor on offer we believe the 2 GB RAM could actually turn out to be a 3 GB RAM instead. The phone will reportedly sport a spectacular camera combination of a 20 megapixel rear camera and a 12 megapixel front facing camera. If this is indeed the case, then the HP Falcon would boast of the best camera configuration of any Windows 10 powered mobile.
Does this strengthen or weaken the Surface Phone argument?
If Microsoft is planning on intruding the mobile OS space with the help of other OEMs it surely stands to benefit from the OEM’s own consumer base. However, I believe this further strengthens the argument that Microsoft will launch a Surface Phone soon.
Microsoft may have made some blunders in the past but ever since Satya Nadella has taken over the CEO role the company has pushed forward with its mobile strategy not only aggressively but also quite innovatively. One would expect Microsoft to use the two-pronged approach to its advantage just as Google has been attempting to do for a while now.

A Surface Phone becomes all the more likely if the Windows 10 OS gains traction among other OEMs and the Windows Continuum experience improves even further to allow consumers a unique new option of buying a smartphone and using it as your PC when required. That is one experience no other brand can currently offer.
