Intex Technologies has added a new smartphone to its ever expanding Aqua series and this time it is a low-budget phone that has been added to the portfolio. The new Intex Aqua Classic is here. Let’s dive into the specifications on this phone.
Specifications – Intex Aqua Classic
The Intex Aqua Classic comes with a 5 inch FWVGA display that has a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. The display is protected from accidental damages thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology. The phone comes with a 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor alongside a 1 GB RAM, making it a decent performer in its price segment.
The internal storage on the Aqua Classic is 8 GB and it can be expanded up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot. For a phone that’s expected to cost Rs. 4,444 that is an acceptable storage capacity as per current market trends. The primary camera on the phone is a 5 megapixel unit which has support for LED flash, video recording, and digital zoom. The secondary camera is a 0.3 megapixel VGA camera. This clearly isn’t your typical selfie phone but then it wasn’t intended to be one.

The Intex Aqua Classic is a dual-SIM phone with 3G connectivity. So for a change a smartphone from Intex that is not 4G enabled. Intex has been dishing out 4G phones at a fast pace this year but it does seem to throw the odd 3G phone in the mix every now and then. However, while Intex has taken the lead in offering 4G phones even in the low-budget segment, such as the Intex Cloud Glory 4G, it is certainly not a bad option to expand your low-budget portfolio with 3G phones. There is still some time to go for the low-budget and entry-level segments to accept the 4G strategy wholeheartedly.
The dimensions of the Intex Aqua Classic are as follows – 145.5×72.6×9.3 mm. The phone weighs 160 grams, which does seem a little on the higher side for a 5 inch phone. The battery capacity on the Aqua Classic is 2100 mAh. That is a good battery for a phone that costs less than Rs. 4,500.
The Intex Aqua Classic will be powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. This is an interesting option because Intex has already shown that their products can adopt to the latest Android version through the Cloud Glory 4G which costs less than the Aqua Classic and offers Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. This begs the question if Intex can offer Android 6.0 on a phone priced lower why would they not offer the same system software on a phone released later. One possible explanation could be that the Aqua Classic could have been conceived and planned before the Cloud Glory 4G. But then that is mere speculation.
It is worth noting that Intex’s plans for the future include an increased focus on consumer durables. Intex has stated that it expects nearly 50% of its revenue to come from consumer durables by the end of 2017, which means its smartphone strategy would see certain changes to ensure continued growth.
It is quite possible that the company is currently focusing on expanding its portfolio in the low-budget segment because that is always a market that is competitive yet adds to every smartphone brand’s bottom line if they have enough products to showcase.
