If there is one Indian smartphone company that truly deserves the moniker “innovation driven” it would have to be Intex. Most certainly a number of products launched by the company in the first half of 2016 would justify the moniker. Intex has been expanding its product portfolio and exploring interesting new opportunities such as partnering with the Sailfish OS community to launch the Intex Aqua Fish earlier this year.

Now the New Delhi based company has launched a product that would qualify as an innovation at least on the pricing front and maybe even the hardware front. The new Intex Aqua Lions 3G is a very reasonably priced smartphone for the battery capacity that it offers, but more on that later. First, let’s take a quick look at the other specifications on the Intex Aqua Lions 3G.
Specifications – Intex Aqua Lions 3G
The Aqua Lions 3G comes with a 5 inch IPS display and with a pixel density of 294 ppi. The phone has some decent processing power to it as it comes with a 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor. The 1 GB RAM helps add to the performance. The Aqua Lions 3G has an internal storage of 8 GB, which is expandable up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot.
The Aqua Lions 3G has a 5 megapixel primary camera with auto focus dual LED flash. The secondary camera on the phone is a 2 megapixel unit. The cameras support digital zoom. As the name suggests the Aqua Lions 3G is a 3G phone and doesn’t support 4G connectivity which many tech pundits would argue is “so 2015”. I would largely agree with that but let’s not forget that India is still embracing 3G and 4G has only just begun to find some traction in the country.

The Aqua Lions 3G’s battery capacity is an impressive 3500 mAh. This will allow the phone to offer a talk time of up to 10 hours and a standby time of up to 480 hours. The dual-SIM phone weighs a mere 172 grams which is pretty good for its form factor. The Aqua Lions 3G is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
The phone comes with some interesting and useful apps pre-installed. The most notable of these are the Gujarat Lions official app for the cricket frenzy crowd, Matrabhasha service that offers communication in 21 regional languages including Hindi, Newshunt, and Hike messenger.
Why is the Aqua Lions 3G a likely best seller in its price segment?
We are pretty confident that this phone will be a best seller in its price segment and the primary reason for that is its battery capacity. As noted above, the Aqua Lions 3G comes with a 3500 mAh battery, which is a good battery capacity to boot for a phone in any price segment. But the fact that the Aqua Lions 3G is priced Rs. 4,999 is just a killer deal for a lot of Indian consumers.
As we have noted before on our blog, battery capacity on a smartphone is a major factor that influences the buying behavior of consumers in India so as a brand if you could offer a phone with a 3500 mAh battery at around Rs. 5,000 you have a winner on your hands. Nobody knows that better than home-bred brands such as Intex.
