After a brief lull Intex is back to doing what it does best. Intex is launching new phones this October and true to form the Indian smartphone brand has launched some noteworthy low-budget and entry level smartphones this month. Earlier this month the New Delhi based company launched the Intex Aqua Q8.

Let’s take a closer look at what this phone has to offer.

Specifications – Intex Aqua Q8

The Intex Aqua Q8 has a 4.5 inch display with a screen resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. While those are not display specs that sound amazing let’s not forget that this phone falls in a low-budget price segment.

The Aqua Q8 comes with a 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor and a Mali-400MP GPU. The phone has a 1 GB RAM to boot. This combination makes the Aqua Q8 a decent performer for its price segment. The internal storage on the Aqua Q8 is a very modest 8 GB. Thankfully it can be expanded up to 32 GB using a microSD card slot.

The primary camera on this phone is 5 megapixel. It supports LED flash. No prizes for guessing that the secondary camera on the Aqua Q8 isn’t your ideal selfie snapper. It is a mere 0.3 megapixel unit. While this is a low-budget phone one expects Intex to do better than that on the camera configuration even on low-budget phones as Intex has done in the past.

The Aqua Q8 is a dual SIM phone (GSM + WCDMA) and does provide the facility of a Wi-fi hotspot. However, the one disappointing feature on this phone is that it is a 3G phone. Along with Micromax Intex has been at the forefront of pushing the 4G revolution in India by launching low-budget 4G phones.

The company has been doing so long before Reliance came out with the Jio Preview offer and launched its LYF brand of smartphones. But for reasons best known to them, Intex leadership seems to be pushing out a few 3G phones this year, which defies logic. This is also hard to explain because Intex itself has recently launched a phone as good as the Intex Aqua Strong 5.1 with the Jio Preview offer in mind. This is the time to push for more 4G powered phones because Reliance Jio has certainly had a huge impact on the masses. Everyone wants a 4G enabled phone and I believe Intex might have missed a trick here.

The dimensions on the Intex Aqua Q8 are 135.7 x 67.3 x 8.82 mm. The phone weighs 138.8 grams, which is actually a little on the higher side when its form factor is taken into consideration. Several phones which are larger in frame and build weigh less than this.

The battery capacity on the Intex Aqua Q8 is a mere 1650 mAh and it promises a talktime of up to 10 hours and a standby time of up to 300 hours. The phone’s sensor list includes the G-Sensor, Light sensor, and Proximity sensor. Some other important add-ons on the Intex Aqua Q8 include apps such as Dailyhunt, Newspoint, and Saavn. Also, Matrabhasha is Intex’s very own multi-lingual app that has graced several Intex phones in the past including many in the Aqua series of smartphones.

For a smartphone that seems to have missed a few hardware tricks even for its price segment the Aqua Q8 has done well to incorporate the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. While this isn’t the latest version of Android, there are very few low-budget phones that currently come with the Android Marshmallow. This is especially true for the Aqua Q8’s price segment.

The Intex Aqua Q8 is currently available on Snapdeal for Rs. 4,500. The phone is available in three colors – White, Champagne, and Black.

We would recommend the Intex Aqua Q8 only if your budget is limited to its current price and you are an Intex loyalist who also happens to like 4.5 inch displays on smartphones in this day and age.
