LeEco has had an absolutely incredible 2016 so far. The company has not only managed to garner a lot of attention with some world class products, it has also managed to remain in the news consistently well. However, if the latest rumors are to be believed, the company might have outdone every other smartphone on the planet. There is a new flagship product from LeEco that will reportedly sport some staggering specs. Let’s take a closer look at these rumored specs.
Specifications – LeEco Flagship
GizChina reports that this new flagship phone from LeEco will likely be powered by the next generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. If that turns out to be true, this will be one of the first, if not the first, smartphone to come with the Snapdragon 821 processor. The smartphone is also likely to boast of an 8 GB RAM. That will make this new LeEco flagship the most powerful smartphone going around.

If for reasons best known to you those two specs haven’t already given you goosebumps then picture this – the phone is also rumored to sport a 25 megapixel camera. Now that is a powerful phone.
Do you really need an 8 GB RAM on your phone?
Yes.
Ever since this news broke I have seen a number of pundits and gadget gurus questioning the logic behind launching a phone with an 8 GB RAM. Their argument is that nobody actually needs a phone with an 8 GB RAM. Have you ever heard of a more inept argument? I know I have but let’s examine this one for now.
Technological progress has never been defined by what the consumer wants. In fact it is almost always determined by what the consumer needs. And quite often when the torch is being passed between generations of tech products, folks with limited insight fail to see what people need.
People don’t know what they want, until you show it to them.
– Steve Jobs
So this argument that because all the tasks that we currently perform on our phones can be performed using a 3-4 GB RAM at best falls flat on its face. As computing power has grown over the years the computing hardware has continued to shrink. Our smartphones today are more powerful than the supercomputers of a few decades ago and everyone who had the insight that we don’t need a lot of computing power in future has been consistently proven wrong.
We are now a generation that has begun to see the rise of Virtual Reality. VR is quickly becoming a part of the smartphone ecosystem and as VR systems themselves improve over time they will need the smartphones they support to be powered by better hardware. Lenovo recently launched the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro, which is a bit of a milestone product as it is the first smartphone ever that supports Google’s Augmented Reality project – Tango.
There will be more such phones and they will need to be powered by even better hardware than the Phab 2 Pro as the AR technology matures. So do you need an 8 GB RAM on your phone? Absolutely. Why the heck not?
