Lenovo has produced some extremely good gaming laptops over the last couple of years through its Y series of laptops. Now the company has expanded its gaming laptop range and introduced a new powerful product to the mix. The new Lenovo Ideapad Y700 is here. Let’s take a look at the specifications on this laptop.
Specifications – Lenovo Ideapad Y700
The Lenovo Ideapad Y700 comes with a 15.6 inch IPS display that has a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The laptop comes with an Intel Core i7 processor with a 6700 HQ chipset that boasts of clock speeds from 2.6 GHz to 3.5 GHz. And most importantly the Ideapad Y700 comes with a 6 MB cache.
It is important to note that this is an i7 processor so Lenovo could have pushed the cache on the Ideapad Y700 even further up, maybe 8 MB could have been optimal? Having said that it is still a good enough configuration to boast of. The system memory (RAM) on the Ideapad Y700 is an extremely good 16 GB. The graphics memory on the other hand is a 4GB GDDR5, while the graphics processor on this laptop is the famous Nvidia GTX 960M.

The storage capacity on the Lenovo Ideapad Y700 is a good 1 TB. This may have qualified as great storage capacity on a regular laptop but the fact that this is branded and sold as a gaming laptop makes storage a rather demanding criteria. Unlike some other modern laptops the Ideapad Y700 does have a optical drive and I am very thankful for that because as a gamer myself I understand the need for an optical drive on a gaming laptop.
I know this is 2016 but you would have to blame the PC gaming industry for not coming up with something like a central cloud alternative for game access just like the console industry has. The 9.5MM DVD/RW optical drive is a bit of a cool feature even though it isn’t anywhere close to a new feature on a laptop. Ask avid gamers and they will explain the hassles that come with not having an optical drive.
The laptop has 1 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 RJ45 LAN port, 1 HDMI port, 1 VGA port, and support for a multi card slot that includes SD, SDHC, SDXC, and MMC. The battery on the Lenovo Ideapad Y700 is a 4 cell battery that will last up to 5 hours on a single full charge. While that is not a bad battery performance on a regular laptop one does expect better battery specs on a laptop designed specifically for the gaming purpose.
As is the case with most gaming laptops the Ideapad Y700 is a bulky customer. The laptop weighs 2.6 kg and I believe that companies like Lenovo can certainly do better than this and offer customers a laptop at least half in weight to this one. The dimensions on the laptop are – 387 x 277 x 25.95 mm.
Other features on the Ideapad Y700 include a 1 MP 3D HD web camera, touchpad, and a red LED backlit keyboard. The Ideapad Y700 is powered by Windows 10 Home edition from Microsoft and will in all likelihood live up to an overall fun gaming experience. For starters, the Ideapad Y700 is available in Black colour.

The price of a gaming laptop is really a deal breaker in most cases and this is where Lenovo has been trying to compete with the incomparable Alienware gaming laptop series from Dell. The price is supposedly Lenovo’s USP when pitted against its toughest opponent in this niche. However, the Lenovo Ideapad Y700 is available now for Rs. 99,990.
I would not argue against this product as it is in all fairness a good product but I doubt if this is worth the price. I reckon Lenovo would do well to slash the prices of this laptop down to under Rs. 90,000 and while I know that has never happened before with an Ideapad laptop from Lenovo, what gamers do really well is dream. In the spirit of one of the great video games of all times – “Lenovo, would you kindly?”
