Specifications – Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus
The Vibe K5 Plus comes with a 5 inch IPS display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The phone boasts of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor with a 2 GB RAM to boot. The phone also comes with 16 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot. The front camera is also the current market standard 5 megapixel shooter.
The battery on the Vibe K5 Plus is a 2750 mAh battery which wouldn’t be considered a killer spec on a modern smartphone that costs a little over Rs. 10,000, but it is still good enough to carry you through a day’s internet browsing and talk-time on one full-charge.

The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus is the brawnier cousin of the Lenovo Vibe K5
Some of our readers may have already noticed that Lenovo has launched another smartphone called the Vibe K5 alongside the Vibe K5 Plus. This is a tried and tested strategy from Lenovo, and some of its competitors, wherein a phone is launched in 2 variants and named differently for marketing purposes. Both devices have pretty much the same specification except a few key changes that eventually determine how the phone is priced.
This leads to consumers getting more options on the same product which almost always affects buying behavior. I call this perception-branding and it is certainly pretty close to the marketing strategy of creating value for consumers when there is very little to work with in terms of product placement.
The Vibe K5 Plus is the brawnier cousin of the Lenovo Vibe K5 and improves on the SoC and display quality to justify a slightly higher price. The Vibe K5 is expected to sell at Rs. 8,799.
The relationship between Lenovo Vibe series and its sister brands
Lenovo had recently rung the death knell for the iconic Motorola brand and re-branded it as “Moto by Lenovo” but in doing so the Chinese multinational decided against burying its Vibe brand. While the company has the option of pushing the Moto by Lenovo brand on the back of Motorola’s legendary brand power, its decision to continue with the Vibe brand instead of dissolving it or merging it with the Moto by Lenovo brand goes to show that internally Lenovo has a lot of faith in the Vibe brand.
Lenovo believes in building separate brands for each of its product verticals. The Yoga series is a great example of this approach so this decision to not only continue with the Vibe brand but push it even further is consistent with Lenovo’s long term brand building exercise.
