Reliance’s Lyf, the fifth largest smartphone vendor in India by shipments, has been creating waves in the mid-range smartphone segment for a while now, with launches such as the Lyf Water 8.
The Indian smartphone company has made yet another addition to its Lyf series of smartphones – the Lyf F1 (F1 being short for Future One). The smartphone was made available for purchase at Reliance Digital stores on October 21.
The Lyf F1 boasts of several impressive features. Here are some of the noteworthy ones –
- Smart tray: Allows quick access to 15 apps of your choosing
- Smart video play: Lets you play two videos simultaneously; pauses a video automatically when it detects that you are not watching the video
- Smart ring: Adjusts the ringer volume automatically with respect to ambient noise
- Smart shortcuts: Allows you to doodle personal gestures to open apps from the home screen

Lyf F1 – Specifications
Form Factor and Display
The Lyf F1 has a unibody design with the dimensions – 155.5 x 77.6 x 7.9 mm. The device weighs 153 grams.
The smartphone has a 5.5-inch FHD IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, translating to a pixel density of 400 ppi. The capacitive touch screen interface allows for 5-point multi-touch and screen mirroring. Also, the screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection.
Architecture, Memory, and Operating System
The Lyf F1 packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 MSM8952 chipset. The processor is of the type – Octa Core (1.52 GHz + 1.21 GHz). The smartphone has an Adreno 405 GPU marked at 550 MHz.
The phone has 3 GB of RAM and an internal memory of 32 GB, which is expandable up to 128 GB via a microSD card.
As for the operating system, the device runs Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out-of-the-box.

Camera and Battery
The Lyf F1 has a 16-megapixel primary camera with dual-LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The camera allows for 1,080p HD video recording at 30 fps. The secondary camera, on the other hand, is an 8-megapixel shooter with screen flash and autofocus. It is capable of recording 720p HD videos at 30 fps.
Both camera units allow for 8X digital zoom. Other camera features include:

As for the battery, the Lyf F1 is powered by a 3,200 mAh unit, which allows for talk time up to 4.2 hours (4G), HD video playback of around 5 hours, audio playback of up to 71 hours (headset), and standby time of about 350 hours.
Connectivity and Multimedia
The Lyf F1 is a dual-SIM (4G+2G) phone. Although both its SIM slots are 4G-enabled, only one slot can be used for 4G at a time, while the other slot will work on 2G. The SIM 1 and SIM 2 slots support the types micro and nano, respectively.
Other connectivity features include GPRS (Class 12), EDGE (Class 12), 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n), Bluetooth v4.1, GPS, and micro USB 2.0, and a 3.5-mm audio jack.
The call features in the smartphone include noise cancellation with a dual mic. Multimedia features include FM radio and loudspeaker. The music player supports the formats – MP3, MIDI, OGG, AAC, AAC+, AMR, and WMA. The video player works well with the formats – MP4, MPEG, MKV, and 3GP.
Sensors and Other Features
The sensors incorporated in the Lyf F1 are gyroscope, ambient light, E-compass, proximity, and accelerometer.
The SAR values for the smartphone are marked at 1.220 W/Kg (head) and 0.941 W/Kg (body).
The Lyf F1 is available in black and priced at about Rs. 14,000. The smartphone comes with a two-year manufacturer warranty and a six-month warranty for accessories in the box. Other box contents and accessories include quick service guide, earphones, charger adaptor, SIM card removing pin, micro USB cable, and warranty card.
The Lyf F1 will face competition from models like the Lenovo ZUK Z1, Motorola Moto G4 Plus (16 GB), and Vivo V3. The Lenovo ZUK Z1, for example, has a fingerprint sensor and a larger 4,100 mAh battery.
