People who observe the smartphone space have noticed Micromax undergo a sweeping image makeover thanks to the company’s latest anthem – ‘Nuts. Guts. Glory.’ With this new and rather aggressive, some would call it over-the-top, marketing blitzkrieg Micromax hopes to create a new niche for itself not only in India but elsewhere.
However, the company is smart enough to realize that marketing gimmicks work only if you complement it with great, or good, products. Micromax certainly isn’t oblivious to this fact and is now out with a number of new products to further engage the consumers.
The Gurgaon based company has now launched the Micromax Canvas Evok. Let’s take a quick glance at the specifications on this phone.
Specifications – Micromax Canvas Evok
The Micromax Canvas Evok comes with a 5.5 inch IPS display and the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 technology which offers the display protection from accidental falls and other potential damaging circumstances. The phone boasts of a 1.4 GHz Octa Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 processor alongside the Adreno 405 GPU and a 3 GB RAM to boot. The Canvas Evok has 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card slot.

As is the case with a number of Micromax budget phones the Canvas Evok is a dual-SIM phone with 4G support. Micromax has been very aggressive on the 4G strategy for a while now and it seems they are sticking to it. The phone comes with a 13 megapixel primary camera dual-LED flash, support for full HD video recording, and auto focus. The secondary camera is a 5 megapixel unit and given Micromax’s ability to produce good camera phones of late, I am pretty certain that this will live up to your selfie expectations.
The Micromax Canvas Evok has a 3000 mAh battery capacity and according to the company the phone will deliver a talktime of up to 10 hours on 2G and a standby time of up to 337 hours on 2G. Interestingly, the Canvas Evok is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. When most of it competitors are quickly adopting the latest Android version – Marshmallow – I am not sure why Micromax isn’t super keen on doing the same given that their anthem builds them up as super friendly to both – software and hardware.
What does Micromax have in store for us next?
As I mentioned before Micromax is currently focused on delivering as many quality products as possible while it tries to pitch its brand to a new consumer base. In this quest the company has launched products such as the Micromax Canvas Mega 2 and the Micromax Canvas 6 Pro. These are quality phones and offer consumers value for their money but Micomax isn’t restricting itself to the Canvas series launches.
Several media report indicate that Micromax’s subsidiary Yu Televentures is set to launch its latest flagship, the Yu Yunicorn, in India soon. In fact it was earlier rumored to be launched today but the launch has now been postponed to May 31.
The Yu brand is pretty important to Micromax as it is the company’s only true “smartphone brand”. Owning a brand is a responsibility few smartphone companies can take, which is why only the top smartphone companies such as Lenovo attempt to diversify their smartphone ranges into separate brands. So it is imperative that Micromax, as a home-bred company in India, does its best to push the Yu brand forward.
