After a little executive level trouble and execution mishaps India’s most successful home-bred smartphone company Micromax is looking to make a come back as we head towards the second half of 2016. The company is already back in news thanks to its latest anthem ‘Nuts. Guts. Glory.’ While it’s not new for brands to opt for an image makeover after a lull, it is certainly a little uncanny for a brand to try to change public perception through an ad campaign in the year 2016.

When it’s all said and done it will eventually come down to the products that Micromax delivers to its consumers. The Gurgaon based company needs to focus on innovative new products like its competitor Intex Technologies to win back some of its audience and acquire new customers. The new Micromax Canvas Mega 2 is among the many new smartphones that the company is rolling out this summer. Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on this phone.

Specification – Micromax Canvas Mega 2

As the name implies the Canvas Mega 2 has a mega screen to boast. The phone comes with a 6 inch IPS display and a 1.3 GHz quad core processor to power its performance. The Canvas Mega 2 also boasts of a 1 GB RAM. The internal storage on the phone is a standard 8 GB. The phone’s primary camera is an 8 megapixel unit that comes with LED flash and the secondary camera, for all those selfies, is a 5 megapixel unit.

Interestingly, the dual-SIM phone supports 3G connectivity but not 4G. That’s a little surprising even for a low-budget Micromax phone as the company seemed to be on a 4G spree last year. The Canvas Mega 2 has a reasonable battery capacity of 3000 mAh which, I must add, is pretty good for a phone that’s expected to be priced less than Rs. 8,000.

It seems Micromax is not willing to compromise on the battery aspect of its low-budget phones. In fact this has proved to be one of the USPs of Micromax phones. Being the top local players they clearly understand the local market requirements. The phone is powered by the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

The Micromax Canvas Mega 2 is part of the company’s ever growing phablet focus

With the launch of the Canvas Mega 2, it is fair to say that Micromax is heading further into familiar territories.

With the launch of Canvas Mega 2, we will surely drive the value for money phablet category in the country by addressing major consumer pain points of better viewing experience and more productivity on-the-go at disruptive price points. With the cricketing season on its roll, the new smartphone will be a true haven for the sports aficionados in the country as they will be able to consume best quality cricket viewing experience on the move.

– Mr. Shubhajit Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Micromax Informatics

The statement above clearly shows that Micromax is focused on furthering the cause of its phablet division. The company is also claiming that they now own a 15 percent market share in the phablet division in India. If that statistic is accurate then Micromax may find itself in a suitable position to dominate the market in the phablet division in the near future.
