The IDC report also added that the company has regained its share in the $150-$200 segment owing to the introduction of the Canvas 6 series and the Yu Yunicorn smartphone that was launched in June 2016.
Apart from new product launches, Micromax has quite a lot going on in terms of business strategy. The Gurgaon-based company is counting on a dual-brand strategy, wherein Yu will target the youth with its premium offerings, while Micromax will focus on smartphones that are priced under Rs. 12,000. Shubhodip Pal, Chief Operating Officer at Yu Televentures (a wholly owned unit of Micromax) revealed that this strategy would eliminate the scope for price cannibalization between the two brands. He went on to add that Yu will be out of the sub-Rs. 10,000 segment by November this year.
Micromax has also forayed into the smartTV segment with an aim to increase its share in the Indian TV market to 12% by the end of the fiscal year. The company entered this market in 2012 and currently holds a share of 10%. It also launched a range of air conditioners in June in a bid to diversify its overall product portfolio.
The Micromax Neo LPQ61407W laptop is obviously targeted at the price-conscious Indian consumers. Priced at a little over Rs. 18,000, the device is available in black colour.
