Motorola has a habit of producing interesting products, which more often than not turn about to be compelling products such as the Moto X style. After the incredible success of the original Moto G and its successors the company recently launched the highly anticipated Moto X Play. Motorola has also announced that it will unveil the Moto X Force, which will sport Motorola’s much talked about Moto ShatterShield display technology. Well, this week Motorola is lifting the curtains off another interesting product – the Moto G Turbo.
The Moto G Turbo has already been launched in Mexico and is coming to India this week. Let’s take a quick glance at the specs on the Moto G Turbo.
Moto G Turbo Specifications
The Moto G Turbo comes with a 5 inch display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor, a 2 GB RAM, and 16 GB of internal memory expandable through a microSD card. In terms of the camera units, the Moto G Turbo has a 13 megapixel rear unit and a 5 megapixel front facing unit. The phone has a 2470 mAh battery capacity and is powered by Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. The Moto G Turbo is a 4G LTE device and supports other standard connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz).

One extremely interesting feature of the Moto G Turbo is that it has an IP67 certification. What does that mean? Well, simply put, the device is highly water resistant and can, if I may put it this way, survive for 30 minutes submerged under water up to a depth of 1 meter.
Is the Moto G Turbo a lesser version of the Moto X Play?
Some smartphone pundits are calling the Moto G Turbo a lesser version of the Moto X Play but is that how the device should really be defined?
The fact is that the Moto G Turbo is pretty much the same as the Moto X Play minus a more powerful camera unit and a more efficient battery unit. However, let’s not forget that the Moto G Turbo has a 5 inch display when compared to the Moto X Play’s 5.5 inch display. This may not seem like a big factor based purely on the maths but when it comes to consumer acceptance and preference a 5 inch display is very much an industry standard when it comes to ease-of-use. Therefore, by popular demand this is a big factor.

Motorola has used this subtle difference in size to justify curtailing a few other specs such as the battery and the rear camera when that is not necessarily the case with other brands. We know that the specs on a mobile device begin to plateau as the size of the display increases because of course it isn’t just the display that is increasing in size the rest of the device’s industry defined units also begin to change. Perhaps Motorola wants to gamble on the consumer’s embarrassment-of-riches mindset.
The pricing strategy of Motorola phones
While the price of the device has not been made public one can expect it to be smartly priced. Most certainly below the Moto X Play’s current market price. Motorola has been a champion of the pricing game. With the Moto G, the company had revolutionized the online sales model which was later adopted by other brands such as Xiaomi and OnePlus with great success.

One extremely important factor to consider here is that even though the current Motorola structure isn’t the same as its iconic past would have preferred, it still very much holds on to its core philosophy of simplicity in design and gaps in pricing. The Moto G Turbo is a great example of the simplicity in design. It is a beautiful device waiting to be explored and before we even know the price it is almost rest assured that the gap in pricing from its other flagships will be self evident when the Moto G Turbo makes its debut.
Update:
Moto G Turbo mobile is now available in India through Flipkart at Rs. 14,499.
