Oculus App reason for battery drain in Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S7 phones, users demand fix

Samsung is the largest and major player in the smartphone market and has released many phones in the year. Out of all phones launched Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6, and Galaxy S7 Edge, user claim that they have been facing problems of battery drain after installing the Oculus app latest update. It was speculated due to the reason that the battery draining problem was fixed automatically after the app was uninstalled. The users have claimed the problem on Oculus and Reddit forums.

Installing Oculus app drains battery:

Oculus app once installed runs in the background and most of the users of the above mentioned Samsung phones complained about quick draining of battery with use of the app. There are many complains on Oculus forum regarding the issue and most of them say that every 30 second 1% of the battery is drained while running the Oculus app. The app is a necessary install in case anyone wants to use Gear VR headset on their smartphones. Many customers complained of not been able to charge phone 100% even after overnight charge, battery overheating and improper functioning of TouchWiz UI.

 

Uninstalling Oculus resolved the issue:

Most of the users also claimed that deleting the Oculus app resolved the problem of battery draining and all the problems related to charging and battery was dismissed. There have been lot of claims and discussion on Reddit regarding the same. The issue was checked by Oculus and have now confirmed that it is no more a threat and the issue has been resolved. Oculus informed Gizmodo that updating or re-installing will not cause battery draining issue anymore. The company said – “we recently pushed an update to the Oculus app that inadvertently caused some people to experience phone battery drain. The team has issued a fix that prompts people to update the Oculus software when they open Oculus app. If they do not see the prompt, then the phone has been automatically updated and no further action is needed.”

Conclusion:

Samsung has been subject to lot of controversies lately and this added to it. However with Oculus confirming that the issue has been resolved it is a little relief for Samsung. It had already battled with faulty battery issue that forced for worldwide recall and led to massive loss. Currently the launch of Galaxy Note 7 is delayed in India with no timeline given.
