Samsung has announced a new budget Tablet in Taiwan. The new Samsung Galaxy Tab J is Samsung’s latest attempt at a budget Tablet. Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on this Tablet.

Specifications – Samsung Galaxy Tab J

The Samsung Galaxy Tab J comes with a 7 inch PLS display with a screen resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The pixel density on the display is 216 ppi. The Tablet comes with a 1.5 GHz Quad Core processor alongside a 1.5 GB RAM. The internal storage on the Tablet is 8 GB. This can be expanded up to 200 GB using a microSD card slot.

The camera configuration has never been a talking point on a Samsung Tablet so it is not surprising to see more average camera specs on budget Tablet from Samsung. The Galaxy Tab J has an 8 megapixel primary camera alongside a 2 megapixel secondary camera for that rare selfie that you might want to take using your Tablet.

The Tablet supports 3G and 4G connectivity along with offering a micro USB slot. It does cover some of the more important connectivity features one expects from a Tablet. There is no WiFi ac support on this device. But it does support WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. The dimensions on the Tablet are 186.9 x 108.8 x 8.7 mm. It weighs 289 grams. While it may sound like a reasonable weight for a 7 inch device let’s not forget that there are dozens of brands offering phablets and Tablets that weigh a lot less. For its form factor I would say the Galaxy Tab J certainly weighs at least 50 grams more than what Samsung would have hoped for.

The battery capacity on the Galaxy Tab J is a decent 4000 mAh battery. This is a pretty standard battery capacity for a Tablet. There are of course a number of products that offer way more battery capacity in the Galaxy Tab J’s price segment. While admitting that Samsung can certainly do better in terms of battery on a budget Tablet, I would say this isn’t a bad battery specification otherwise.

The Galaxy Tab J is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS, which is a bit of a disappointment as one would expect Samsung to adopt the latest version of Android on all its Galaxy Tab devices by now. Bundled with the Galaxy Tab J are the charger and the USB cable.

The other Galaxy Tab J variant from Samsung

Interestingly, Samsung has launched two separate products that may qualify as variants of the Galaxy Tab J. The other product is called the Samsung Galaxy J Max. The specifications on the two Tablets are pretty much the same. You can argue that these are the same product until you realize that the Galaxy J Max is a dual-SIM Tablet. This obviously means that the J Max has more connectivity options on offer than the Tab J. There is also speculation that the Galaxy J Max has been relaunched as the Galaxy Tab J specifically for the Taiwanese market with minor changes to the specs of the J Max. Either way the Tab J would still qualify as a variant of the J Max.

The Galaxy J Max also supports VoLTE, which is still not a common feature on Tablets though the smartphone segment across brands have taken to it like fish to water. The reason for that of course is the 4G strategy on the smartphone spectrum.

If you are looking for a reasonable budget Tablet from a leading brand then the Samsung Galaxy Tab J could be what you are looking for.
