The iconic IT giant has partnered with Microsoft and is bringing the HP Elite X3 phablet to the market. The phone is being marketed as a phone that triples up as a laptop and a desktop when need be. Whether the phone delivers on its promises or not we will find out soon enough. Let’s take a quick glance at the specs on the HP Elite X3.
Specifications – HP Elite X3
The Elite X3 comes with a 6 inch AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The phone packs in what is currently the most powerful processor on a smartphone – the 2.15 GHz Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. This coupled with a 4GB RAM gives the HP Elite X3 a fillip to perform as a top notch modern day smartphone.
The HP Elite X3 comes with 64 GB internal storage which is expandable up to a mammoth 2 TB. The phone comes with a 16 megapixel rear camera and an 8 megapixel front camera, which is a very decent camera combo for HP’s first true high-end mobile device. The dual-SIM phone supports all standard connectivity options including 4G and weighs a mere 195 gram, which is pretty impressive given its form factor.
The HP Elite X3 also boasts of a battery capacity of 4150 mAh. This is another impressive spec on this phone and it goes to show that HP has really been working hard on putting together a complete package in the form of the Elite X3 rather than dishing out what would have been yet another great phone with average battery capabilities.
And finally, the HP Elite X3 is powered by the Windows 10 OS from Microsoft and supports the Windows Continuum. And this is its USP. Read on.
The Elite X3 is a truly remarkable product and HP and Microsoft are betting big on its success
Last year Microsoft unveiled the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL, thereby marking the beginning of the Windows 10 era. These were the first two phones to support the Windows Continuum and we had accurately speculated that when HP decides to unveil its first Windows 10 powered device it would look to push the Windows Continuum feature with Microsoft’s complete support. Well, the Elite X3 is here and we now know that HP is betting big on the success of this phone and so is Microsoft.

Microsoft’s decision to expand its Windows 10 ecosystem and Windows Continuum support to other OEMs willing to push the Windows 10 agenda forward despite Android’s dominance and iOS’s flamboyance could prove to be a game changer. After all, haven’t all of us been waiting for someone to up the ante and actually push its way through the powerful Android ecosystem to make a name for themselves.
If there is one brand capable of doing that it is Microsoft. But the Redmond based company had been lacking a truly remarkable system software to compete with Android’s ability to infect markets and give impetus to the growth of affordable smartphones in developing countries. Now with the Windows 10 OS and the Windows Continuum technology Microsoft seems to have finally found a way to infiltrate such markets, however, it needs the support of many other OEMs to truly compete with the Android phones and the iPhones.
With the Elite X3 HP has paved the way for other newer OEMs to partner with Microsoft and truly bring upon us a Windows era in the mobile sphere, albeit minus the control freak tactics from the desktop era of the 90s.
