Videocon is making heads turn in the smartphone space of late and it continues to do so with its latest smartphone. The Gurgaon based Video Telecom has launched the Videocon Cube 3 which comes with a rather unique USP. The Cube 3 wants to be budget-security-phone, but more on that later. Let’s take a closer look at the specifications on this phone.
Specifications – Videocon Cube 3
The Videocon Cube 3 comes with a 5 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The display is essentially a 2.5D curved glass display with Dragon Trail glass protection. The Cube 3 boasts of a 1.3 GHz Quad Core MediaTek MT6735 processor alongside a Mali-T720 GPU. The Cube 3 also has an impressive 3 GB RAM to boot.
The phone has a 32 GB internal storage to start with but this storage is expandable up to 64 GB using a microSD card slot. This may not sound like much considering pretty much every other smartphone these days offers similar storage capacity but the fact is that the Cube 3 is expected to be a sub-Rs. 8,500 phone and there aren’t many other phones that can boast of this specification at that price.

The Videocon Cube 3 also comes with an impressive camera configuration. The primary camera on the phone is a 13 megapixel unit with support for dual-tone LED flash. The secondary camera is a standard 5 megapixel unit. While there are a few brands that do offer similar camera specs at this price point they are few and far between.
This is a dual-SIM phone (GSM+LTE) with support for 4G and VoLTE. The battery capacity on the phone is a pretty decent 3000 mAh. This is yet another improvement for Videocon phones in this price segment. The Cube 3 is powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. We are just glad that Videocon has finally started shipping the latest version of Android OS on its budget phones.
Coming to the USP of this product. The phone comes with a literal Panic button. The SOS feature is certainly not new to smartphones and a few brands have already launched products that offer similar features as the panic button but it appears that Videocon has taken the security detailing one step further.

The Videocon Cube 3 comes with the Be-Safe-SOS app. The power button acts as the panic button to start with, while the app offers several security features such as Alert, Walk with ME, and reach on time. The Walk with ME feature is especially useful as it sends the GPS location of the user to contacts that are added as ’emergency contacts’. The GPS location is shared with these emergency contacts at regular intervals which means that the user’s chosen contacts always aware of where the user is at a given point in time.
Reach on time feature is another way to send an alert to the user’s chosen contacts if the user hasn’t reached a particular destined at the expected time. There is ample use for this feature in today’s busy life where every other person is caught up in something yet a smartphone is never too far away.
Videocon could once again become a leading consumer electronics brand in India
There was a time when Videocon ruled the roost in the consumer electronics market in India. However, since the advent of the modern smartphone the consumer electronics segment has seen major shakeups. Videocon wasn’t able to capitalize on the early smartphone euphoria but it has finally crawled its way back into the spotlight.
Other than their smartphone business Videocon is doing well in the TV, washing machine, and the refrigerator markets. But now with its smartphone business finally picking up pace the company could very well become one of the leading smartphone makers in India and yet another home-bred success story in the consumer electronics market as a whole.
