In a bid to capitalize on the festive season’s spirit Videocon has launched a brand new smartphone that has become talk of the town already. The new Videocon Ultra50 is here. Let’s take a look at the specifications on the Ultra50.
Spefications – Videocon Ultra50
The Videocon Ultra50 comes with a 5 inch IPS display that has a screen resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. This translates to a pixel density of 294 ppi. The 5 inch display is protected by the Asahi Dragontrail Glass technology.
The phone has a 1.3 GHz Quad Core Mediatek MT6735 processor and a Mali-T720 GPU to go with it. The 3 GB RAM on the Ultra50 is a great addition to the specs and makes the phone a pretty good performer on the spec chart in its price segment.
Speaking of the price segment. The Videocon Ultra50 will cost Rs. 8,990. That’s a pretty competitive price for a smartphone that offers 3 GB RAM. There aren’t too many brands that come up with such offers so Videocon might just have a winner on its hands. We will find out post the Deepawali festival in India just how well this pricing tactic worked for Videocon.

The internal storage on the Ultra50 is 32 GB. It can be expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card slot. Another very good specification for a smartphone in this price segment. The camera configuration will not disappoint you either.
The Videocon Ultra50 comes with a 13 megapixel primary camera and a 5 megapixel secondary camera. The camera functionality includes Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF), ISCOCELL, Corning Gorilla Camera Lens, SWDR, Panorama, Smile Shutter, Geo Tagging, Face Detection, HDR, Night Vision, and LED flash for both camera units.
The Ultra50 is a dual SIM (GSM + LTE) phone with support for 4G connectivity. To add to that mix is VoLTE support. This indicates that the Ultra50 was made keeping in mind the 4G fever that has gripped the Indian market ever since Reliance introduced the Jio Preview offer.
The dimensions on the Ultra50 are 148.1 x 72.8 x 11.27 mm. The battery capacity on the phone is a pretty good 3000 mAh. The battery is expected to provide up to 8 hours of talktime and up to 350 hours of standby time. There is no shortage of features on this phone. The phone also includes a Fingerprint sensor.
In addition to all this jazz the Videocon Ultra50 comes bundled with some pretty neat apps. These apps include SOS, EROS Now, Gameloft Games, Opera Mini, SwiftKey, Office suite, ChillX, PayPlutus, SBI Buddy, Daily Hunt, and ChillX. Other than these apps there is a pretty unique app feature on the Ultra50.

The phone will allow users to use two different Whatsapp accounts on the same phone simultaneously thanks to the dual Whatsapp feature. I am not sure how many users will actually find a good use for this feature but it is certainly something unique on offer from Videocon. And of late Videocon has demonstrated that they have the knack of offering the unique to generate curiosity in the market.
The Ultra50 is powered by the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. This comes as no surprise because most of the latest Videocon smartphones are based on Android Marshmallow. While Videocon may take a little time to adopt the Android 7.0 Nougat OS, it is evident that they have upped their software game recently.
As I mentioned earlier in this post the timing of the launch of the Videocon Ultra50 is very strategic. India is close to one of its most celebrated festivals and there is nothing like buying a gift for your loved ones during the festive season. Given the pricing and the specs of the Videocon Ultra50, I would recommend this value for money phone to anyone looking to buy a phone in this price segment.
