Now with the launch of the Vivo Y31L the company has managed to deliver another good option in the budget phone segment. To start off here are the specs on the Vivo Y31L.
Specifications – Vivo Y31L
The Vivo Y31L comes with a 4.7 inch IPS display with a screen resolution of 540 x 960 pixels. The handset boasts of a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Snapdragon 410 processor alongside the Adreno 306 GPU. The processing power of the phone gets a boost because of the 1 GB RAM. The phone’s internal storage capacity is a decent 16 GB but it can be expanded up to 128 GB via a microSD card slot.
The 8 megapixel primary camera with LED flash is accompanied by a 5 megapixel secondary camera unit. The dual SIM smartphone supports all modern connectivity options including 4G. The phone weighs a mere 133 grams, which is truly remarkable for a phone of that form factor. Most smartphones of that size and form factor usually weigh above 140 grams.

The battery capacity of the Vivo Y31L is a decent 2200 mAh. And finally, the Vivo Y31L is powered by the Android 5.1 Lollipop OS. But in keeping with the modern trend of offering a unique user experience Vivo chooses to use its Funtouch OS 2.1.
While there are quite a few other good smartphone UIs out there, the Vivo Funtouch OS is something I can personally vouch for. This was by far the most engaging UI I had used in a while when I put the Vivo xShot through a bench marking and performance review last year.
The pricing of Vivo smartphones continues to defy market logic
The Vivo Y31L comes with a price tag of Rs. 9,450. As we have noted a few times already in our previous coverage of Vivo smartphones, the pricing of these phones isn’t consistent with current market logic when pricing of other smartphones from other brands is taken into consideration. For the specs that they offer Vivo phones seem to be priced just a tad higher all the time. One good reason for this could be Vivo’s current market push that sees it emerge as a premium brand instead of becoming yet another smartphone brand.
The company’s market push is about to become very visible and the company itself is about to become very visible in India next month thanks to India’s T20 cricket league. Vivo has bagged title sponsorship of the Indian Premier League for 2 years. The company pipped PepsiCo to bag this deal. The IPL is no ordinary sports league. It is in fact cricket’s numero uno league and one of the world’s most popular sports leagues.
By becoming the title sponsor of the IPL Vivo has guaranteed itself a lot of publicity and the fact that its smartphones are priced higher and seem to always deliver on the quality aspect Vivo’s marketing push looks ready to push the company’s cause as a premium smartphone brand in India.
