The most widely awaited developer event of the year is here. The Apple World Wide Developers Conference 2015 kicks off on June 8. To say that the last 12 months have been spectacular for Apple Inc. would be an understatement. Apple has posted its two best quarters ever, including the best quarter by any company in corporate history, in the year gone by.

The most successful gadget of all time, the iPhone, has had a lot to do with Apple’s recent success and Apple have launched its first new product in half a decade, the Apple Watch, this year. So what should developers, analysts, and Apple enthusiasts be expecting from WWDC 2015?

A much awaited iOS 9 preview

The latest version of iOS is expected to make an appearance at the WWDC 2015. Technology enthusiasts and developers alike are optimistic that the iOS 9 will be showcased at this year’s WWDC. The most talked about feature in the iOS 9 has been one called Proactive. This feature is rumored to be the replacement for iOS’ Spotlight Search. Proactive will essentially display content relative to the user’s routine such as maps, contacts, ToDo lists, or any other apps that may fall into this category. The idea behind Proactive might not sound brand new to Android users but it’s certainly a feature that makes iOS user content management smarter than ever before.

Apart from Proactive the iOS 9 is not likely to offer a lot of changes in terms of user interaction and visual appeal. It is, however, likely to improve upon app management capabilities of the iOS even at the system software level.

A much hyped and security rich OS X update

Apple Mac customers will be keeping a close eye on this one. Apple is likely to announce the latest release of the OS X, more specifically the OS X 10.11. What makes this a much hyped announcement is the fact that Apple has been working hard to make this release of the Mac based OS a high-on-security OS. The OS X 10.11 will have major bug fixes and stability improvements over its predecessor.

At the heart of this security heavy OS will be a new kernel-level security system that Apple has been working on for sometime. It’s called Rootless. Rootless will prevent any kind of malware and adware from accessing system files. It will also positively impact the app-to-app security by making them iCloud Drive compatible.

In terms of consumer-level changes, the OS X 10.11 will also introduce a new Control Center not unlike the one found on iOS. It will allow users some nifty application access. The benefits of having your own hardware and software for desktop and mobile  versions are pretty evident with this Control Center feature. Apple knows which features on a mobile device may also prove useful to end users on a desktop or laptop device since it has user data from either platform. No other company can even consider reaping such cross platform benefits, because there exist none.

A widely anticipated streaming music service

Rumor mills have been abuzz with Apple announcing a new music streaming service for quite sometime now. And this WWDC could finally see the arrival of this service.

In 2014 Apple had acquired Beats Music in a staggering $3 Billion deal. Most Apple skeptics were calling it a bad move as they couldn’t predict where this acquisition could fit in Apple’s future plans, but as it turns out Apple may have decided to completely rebrand Beats Music and integrate it into iTunes with its existing iOS Music app. If that is the case, Apple skeptics will once again be seen running for cover because there is nothing in the streaming music industry that can catapult a new service to instant adoption and stardom like iTunes’ reach and brand value.

A less awaited yet potentially industry defining Apple Watch announcement

The Apple Watch is here to stay. There is no doubt about that. Despite being the last one to enter the industry it’s already the best selling gadget in its category ever. And at the core of the Apple Watch are, as with any gadget’s ecosystem these days, apps. While the Apple Watch looks great and is selling like fruitcakes it is still not the most desirable device to own, owing primarily to its lack of app options.

To thrive further the Apple Watch would need apps and the only way a new gadget can accumulate world class apps is if there is enough developer support around that gadget. This is why Apple is expected to announce a plethora of developer tools that will allow developers to build apps for the Apple Watch by using it as a platform, unlike the current make-do arrangement of having to tether the Apple Watch with an iPhone to make apps work.

You ask app developers and they will tell you – there’s nothing like native app support for a device and Apple will not, or better not, keep developers waiting for this native device support.

The Apple World Wide Developers Conference will be in action from June 8-12 at the Moscone West in San Francisco. Keep watching this space for more Apple news from the WWDC 2015.
