Xolo has introduced a new variant of the Xolo Black. The new variant boasts of a 3 GB RAM compared to the previous version which had a 2 GB RAM. It’s interesting that the company has decided to launch this new variant of the Xolo Black mobile 5 months after the device was first launched in July earlier this year. The device will be available on Snapdeal via a flash sale model on December 29.

It’s worth pointing out that the only difference between the previous version and the new version is the 3 GB RAM. Every other specification remains untouched. Let’s take a quick glance at the specifications on the Xolo Black 3 GB.
Specifications – Xolo Black 3GB
The Xolo Black 3 GB has a 5.5 inch full-HD IPS display with a pixel density of 403 ppi. The smartphone comes with a second-generation 64-bit Snapdragon 615 (MSM8939) processor. The device is powered by four 1 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and four 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The device also boasts of an Adreno 405 GPU and 16 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot.
The Xolo Black has an interesting camera set up. The device has 2 rear cameras. The first is a 13 megapixel camera and the second is a 2 megapixel camera. According to Xolo this camera combination allows for better and faster autofocus and depth-mapping.

The camera units on this device are rather unique and sport some pretty interesting features such as UbiFocus, ChromaFlash, and OptiZoom. UbiFocus serves the peculiar purpose of allowing users to refocus on an object after an image has been clicked. This pretty much serves to partially replace the need for image optimization technology that comes with some other smartphones. ChromaFash on the other hand allows for natural colors in low light. OptiZoom allows for enhanced digital zoom. The front facing camera is a 5 megapixel unit with flash.
The battery unit on this phone is a 3200 mAh battery. The phone is feature packed in every sense of the word. It features a hybrid dual-SIM slot with support for one Micro-SIM and one Nano-SIM. The second SIM slot can also be used as a microSD card slot. The Xolo Black 3GB runs on a Hive Atlas UI which is based on the Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Why did Xolo upgrade only the RAM and didn’t opt for a full-fledged upgrade?
I often get asked why certain brands upgrade their entire flagships within a year? The easy answer is that Moore’s law is now outdated and a similar hitherto unnamed law states that the hardware on a computing device now gets outdated within 6 months.

The hardware industry now innovates beyond the consumer’s ability to appreciate the rate of innovation because unlike some of us who are early adopters of technology, most consumers don’t buy new hardware devices every 12 months. That pushes their hardware awareness back by 2 cycles. Who would have thought this would even be possible in the smartphone industry less than a decade ago!
This is why I find Xolo’s decision to upgrade one specific hardware spec and leave the rest untouched commendable. I have been to the Lava R&D center (Lava is Xolo’s parent company) on multiple occassions in Bangalore, India, I have known folks who work there, and I know for a fact that Xolo is not short on the ability to innovate. The fact that they choose to not complicate things for their consumer base is an approach other brands can learn from.

They already had a feature packed quality device and all they wanted to do is give it a little more adrenaline rush by improving on its ability to process things faster. This is why the RAM upgrade makes far more sense than a full-fledged upgrade for the Xolo Black.
