Zen Mobile has had a pretty modest portfolio in terms of popularity in the market but when it comes to products Zen has made a few noticeable smartphones in the past. Let’s take a look at the Zen Cinemax 2, perhaps the best low-budget smartphone that the company has produced so far.

Specifications – Zen Cinemax 2

The Zen Cinemax 2 comes with a 5.5  inch HD IPS display with a quad core processor that clocks in at 1.3 GHz. The 1 GB RAM does well to allow the processor to accomplish tasks faster. The phone comes with a 5 megapixel primary camera that allows for LED flash, digital zoom, auto focus, and full HD video recording. The internal storage on the phone is a standard 8 GB and can be expandable for up to 32 GB via a microSD card slot.

The dual-SIM phone does not support 4G connectivity. The battery capacity on the Zen Cinemax 2 is an impressive 2900 mAh. While this battery capacity may not seem much when compared to the newer breed of battery heavy phones like the Gionee Marathon M series, it is still a pretty good battery for the price the phone is being sold.

The Cinemax 2 is powered by Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.

Which are some of the Zen Cinemax 2’s competitors?

The Zen Cinemax 2 is a low-budget phone, or as Zen would like to call it – an affordable smartphone. The phone was launched for Rs. 4,199. This is a pretty tough bracket to be in. This particular price segment actually has some of the most competitive players because everyone wants a good smartphone for less than Rs. 5,000. A majority of Zen Cinemax 2’s competitors will be Micromax and Intex phones.

The Intex Aqua Air is a good example of what a competitor for this phone may look like. While the Zen Cinemax 2 might have a slight edge over this phone as far as certain specifications are concerned the Aqua Air is priced a little less than the Cinemax 2. Even if the Aqua Air’s price creeps up to that of the Cinemax 2 chances are brand loyalty would factor in and cause most consumers to opt for a more widely known brand. Also, the Intex Aqua Air has better availability than the Cinemax 2. Zen Mobile certainly needs to work on its marketing strategy.

Zen is in the middle of a transition from a feature phone portfolio to a smartphone portfolio

Zen Mobile is a brand of Teleecare Group. The group itself has been active in the management and distribution of feature phones in India for a decade and a half. However, the Zen Mobile brand was founded in 2009 with a focus on affordable smartphones. While it is true that the parent company has seen a lot of success in the feature phone market the Zen brand itself hasn’t exactly been churning out quality phones at any noticeable pace.

The company is currently in the middle of a transition and progress has been slow but steady. Zen Mobile has launched some interesting phones in the past. One such phone was the Zen S30 3D which, the company claims, was the ‘first 3D phone’ in India with pre-loaded content. This particular phone did not get Zen the success it had hoped it would get. It did manage to make a few headlines but not enough to make heads turn.

It will be interesting to see how Zen Mobile progresses as there hasn’t been much news about new any products of late. The company needs to realize that in order to complete a successful transition a regularly updated smartphone portfolio is the need of the hour.
