This tablet has been there since last 3 years. This tablet has actually revolutionized the whole way how people used to think and perceive about tabs. Apple’s iPad which is having 10-inch screen is dominating the tablet market but most of the companies manufacturing tablet rely on cheap quality of Android OS. But Google Nexus 7 has completely changed the tablet landscape. It is equipped with Android 4.2 Jelly Beans which provides real user experience along with having a good quality screen with the good build quality of the tablet. This is a good choice for tablet lovers.
Features and Specifications
The weight of this tablet is 340g but doesn’t accept any SIM. The size of the screen is 7-inch while the type of the screen is IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which is back lit with 16M colors. The resolution of the screen is 800x1280p and offers multi-touch up to 10 fingers while the protection to the screen was given by the corning gorilla glass. The OS here is Android v4.1 Jelly Beans which is upgradable to v4.4.2 KitKat and the company had plan to upgrade it to v5.0 Lollipop. The processor supporting the OS is 1.2GHz Quad-core and the RAM is 1GB. The internal memory depends on the type of the version of the Nexus 7 as it comes in 6/16/32GB while there is no external memory card slot available. The primary memory at the back is of 1.2MP which offers video calling as well while there is no secondary camera. The battery is 4325mAh Li-ion which is non-removable. This is available in black color. The connectivity options in it are Bluetooth, NFC, microUSB, GPS, Wi-Fi.
Design and Quality
It took only 4 months to the company to make the final design of the tablet from original version. The iPad Mini design shows it would have given quite a slot of struggle and time for the Apple to make it to final version but Nexus 7 doesn’t show any symptoms of rush design. The back of the device is brown/black while having rubberized texture. Though aesthetically this tablet is not as beautiful in design as the Apple’s iPad is but the dotted back gives it a leather feel rather than cheap plastic feelings while actually it is of plastic. The best advantage of small tablet like Nexus 7 is that user can easily hold it out in public in single hand while holding 10inch large iPad seems little ridiculous in public. This tablet is somewhat lighter than some of its 7inch competitors like 450g BlackBerry PlayBook and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 which is 345g. Thus this much makes it possible to use it with single hand. It doesn’t have the metallic feeling like that of Apple’s iPad but the build quality of it is not at all bad. But the connectivity options of it are though quite limited. Towards the bottom is the 3.5mm headset jack and the microUSB slot. Its microUSB cable acts both as charger and as data transfer medium which is a plus in this tablet.
OS and Tech
This tablet also runs Android v4.1 Jelly Beans OS to give it a competition to iPad Mini. This is the only Tablet from Google who use this OS. This though has brought in few improvements in the device by providing speed to the device than the previous versions like that of Microsoft, Apple, Windows phone and iOS. Further enhancements in the OS are also provided by upgrading this to further version and even to Lollipop.
Camera and Multimedia
Camera department in tablets are not very attractive in almost every tablet. This tablet is also having just single rear camera which is also used for the video chat only but lacking the sensor. It also doesn’t have any camera app. The camera here is quite rudimentary and nothing more can be expected from it. The quality of pictures and the videos are not that good.
Battery and Memory
The 4326mAh battery in this tablet can easily last for 8hrs. This much battery life is an example in tablets. Many 7inch tablets don’t provide 8hrs battery working like Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 provides only six and half hours of battery life. RAM is 1GB while the internal storage varies 8/16 and 32GB but it is not expandable further.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:

· Due to extended OS the performance of the tablet is quite speedy
· It can be easily controlled by one hand
· Textured backs avoids the plastic feel
For Cons:
· Memory non-expandable
· Poor camera
· Limited RAM
Verdict
Nexus 7 is among the best tablets and due to good pricing offer, this is in fact a threat to most of the 7inch devices. Look wise this device is quite good and doesn’t give plastic feel. It is but not perfect since it doesn’t offer all the Google services especially in UK.
