Samsung has launched different models in low price segment and one of them is the Pocket Neo. The small and pocket friendly device has decent specs as expected from its price range. Often good things come into small packages and this device proves it nicely. Samsung as a brand has grown due to offering something at all price ranges for smartphone users. This budget oriented phone is a suitable device for students, low income groups, basic use, etc. Many people use limited number of apps ranging from two to three and this phone is suitable for such use. Samsung seems to have an answer for every demand in smartphone segment.

The Galaxy Pocket Neo comes with a 3 inch TFT display screen with smooth touch response. It allows the user to keep their choice of apps within finger control. Apart from quick internet speed, it also brings a lot of advanced specs which makes it a value for money purchase. A strong central processing unit manages to multitask without any lag on using suitable apps. This dual SIM phone has a low screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It means that jagged edges of icons are visible and images are likely to appear pixelized. There is no ambient light sensor and it may be difficult to get screen clarity while moving outdoors.  Viewing angles can be rated as average and colours may fade out while tilting the device.

The plastic build and dimension gives it a toy look. It has almost 12mm thickness and a little chubby compared to slim stylish devices. It is lightweight at 100grams and easily slips into one hand. The big physical home key switch on the front of screen is quite prominent. Lock button is situated on right edge while the volume rocker is located on the left side. Bottom part of the device has a microUSB port in order to sync for charging the phone. A 3.5 mm headphone jack rests on top portion. Basic games such as Angry Birds and Temple run can be played on the device comfortably without any lag. The device comes with average connectivity specs such as Wi-Fi, Glonass, GPS and Bluetooth 4.0. Google’s android and mobile chrome browser is available which works with a slight stutter.

Galaxy Pocket Neo has a 2MP rear camera which is a fixed focus shooter. This device lacks a front camera as found in most of the budget priced phones. In just two seconds, the camera gets ready for a shooting performance. It has a classical interface and capable of shooting panoramas. Users can also utilize the selective scene modes, tweak exposure, and add effects. The images may have correct colours and exposure although slightly dull. Video recording can be also done at 320 x 240 pixels at a frame rate of 14 frames each second. A pre-installed video player plays back the MPEG files at 320 x 240 pixel resolution. It supports files like MP3, AAC, OGG, eAAC+, AAC+ and FLAC. Samsung’s players have several options such as an equalizer to break down music collection in different ways.

Battery and Storage

The device has a battery with 1200mAh power which can last over two days. It can also last up to three days depending upon the usage. There is a 4GB internal storage capacity and the user can use below 2 GB for storing and similar purposes. A microSD card can be used to expand the capacity up to 32 GB.

The Galaxy Pocket Neo is among Samsung’s devices with average functionality. At a budget price of around Rs 6,000, this phone has below average specs. With such a small screen and build up, it has a toy like appeal. Customers may find better features in almost similar priced devices like Nokia Lumia 520, Sony Xperia E, Huawei Ascend Y300, etc.
