Lava, an Indian Mobile handset making Company, is trying to become a strong contender in the budget smartphone market. Iris series of smartphone is such an attempt. Lava Iris 503 looks like a successful attempt.

Features and Specifications:

Lava Iris 503 has specifications demanded by the budget market. It has Dual Sim functionality, one WCDMA and the other GSM. The display is massive with the size of 5 inches with good resolution. Android OS, Jellybean powered this smartphone. The smartphone has Dual Core Processor and nice Graphics Processing Unit from Mali. 4GB Internal Memory is common in this price range along with 512RAM. All Connectivity options are integrated into this smartphone, including Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS. FM Radio feature is available. 5MP Rear Camera has LED flash support. Rear Camera has nice features including HDR Mode, Panorama. It also has zoom functionality. Front Camera has the resolution of 1.3MP. The Battery is of high capacity 2000mAh.

Design and Quality:

Lava Iris 503 has an attractive design with a premium feel to it. The phone is slim and has style to it. The display is superb looking. The back has clean design and attractive. The display is a highlight in this mobile. It is qHD IPS Touch Display with the screen resolution of 540 x 960 and pixel density of 220ppi. The display has Multitouch feature, but it has its flaws while using.   But the display gives you immersive experience.  This bright and colorful display will definitely make your day. The display is better than its competitor Xolo Q700. The viewing experience is great with wide viewing angles thanks to IPS technology. Rounded corners look good. The bottom has three touch buttons for navigation, which is becoming common these days.

OS and Tech:

Android OS JellyBean Version powered this Smartphone. As the mobile do not have proximity sensor, you have the limitation to use some apps which involve gestures. Also Multitouch feature is lagging sometimes when zooming photos. The Dual Core 1.3GHz Processor is powerful for this price. Mali 400 Graphics System gives rich Gaming and Multimedia experience. It is a nice companion for the bright and colorful display. Internal Memory of 4GB may not be enough for some. The memory can be expanded through the extra memory slot provided with the support of MicroSD Card. 512 RAM is enough for the needful. Even though it has the potential to perform, 512MB RAM may limit the performance to some extent. That doesn't mean this do mediocre performance. A little more RAM would be appreciated given the good hardware. GPS for location services and Wi-Fi for faster Data Connection makes it full package. FM Radio is an additional benefit. MicroUSB Connectivity feature is available for a consistent connection.

Camera and Multimedia:

Lava Iris 503 has the good Rear Camera with nice features. It has a resolution of 5 MP with LED flashlight to take photos in low light. It has 8x zoom functionality to clear photos of the distant objects. Face detection and smile detection features are an advantage for taking pictures with perfection. The Panorama feature lets you capture more in your photos. HDR Mode gives you an additional dynamic colour range for vivid pictures.

Battery and Memory:

The mobile has a battery with the capacity of 2000 mAh, which is a big benefit for the features the phone provides. Just forget about charging the phone once it is fully charged.

Verdict:

Lava Iris 503 has a good display and features. The phone looks nice, so is the performance. It has better Camera and display than Micromax A63 Canvas Fun. Some phones in this price segment are equipped with VGA Camera at the Front like Micromax Canvas Fun A76. Well, this is not the case with this phone. Xolo Q700 is a tough competitor with 1GB RAM. If you can increase your budget, Xolo Q800 has better specifications and quality hardware.
