Nokia Asha 500 Mobile Price in India
Nokia was the king of the mobile industry was years. Many people will fondly remember their first phone which probably was a Nokia and the others that flooded the market. The giant has since then fallen so hard that far from just losing out in the smartphone race; their basic handsets are not selling as well as they hoped what with good quality local smartphones available at just Rs. 1000-3000 more. Sometimes though you just want a decent phone with basic features that does the job and that is what Nokia hoped the Asha 500 will be.
Features and Specifications
This is a basic Nokia phone so do not expect smartphone levels of features. The screen is just 2.8 inches TFT display using QVGA technology capable of a 320 x 240 pixel resolution. It does have dual sim features supporting only 2G networks but has WiFi tech. The camera is 2MP with video recording enabled at nowhere near to HD quality and features 4X digital zoom. The internal memory is just 512MB with 64MB of RAM and support for a MicroSD card. The OS is Nokia’s own Symbian Anna supported by a 1GHz ARM11 processor and an OpenVG 1.1 gpu.
Design and Quality
As far as basic phones go the Nokia Asha 500 is very well built and stylish. Then again Nokia has a reputation for coming out with stylish phones. This one is available is six colors which are bright green, bright red, yellow, cyan, black, white and blue. The phone is small enough to fit snugly into the palm of your hand which might seem odd seeing as these days one is used to using phones nearer or bigger than 5 inches. The bezels are quite large but kind of compliment the phone in the looks so it works out well. The tope part of the phone does not have curved edges instead had corners that give the phone a sharp look. The phone is encased in a clear plastic shell giving it a great trendy look.
OS and Tech
In this Android and Apple OS saturated world using something like Symbian Anna will be a very humbling if not shocking experience. Say goodbye to the huge library of apps and games you find readily available on the Android and Apple OS’s respective online stores. You should also not expect any sort of multitasking abilities on the level of above mentioned operating systems. The Symbian Anna experience gets the job done especially if you aren’t that tech savvy and a phone for you is just a tool to stay in touch via calls and sms. All is not lost however as you do get 10 free games when you buy the game and major social media platforms have their own apps available for the phone.
Camera and Multimedia
Photography buffs would only carry this phone if they bought it as a backup in case their expensive one got lost. A backup phone only to stay in touch as the camera on this phone is nothing special at all. Videos can be taken at 320p @ 13fps (frames per second) which isn’t very good quality. Standard quality is 480p while 720p and 1080p are HD and 2160p is what is known as 4K UHD or 4K Ultra HD all of which are either shot at 120 to 25 fps depending on the tech so you can see why 320p at 13fps isn’t that great. Multimedia wise do not expect a full entertainment device as Symbian Anna can play one or two video formats and if you want to watch some downloaded videos on your phone then you will have to convert them to a lower quality and supported format. The popular music formats like MP3 and readily supported and the phone has bundled in earphones for you to use.
Battery and Memory
With a Li-ion 1200 mAh battery you would expect the phone to give a poor battery usage life but that is wrong. The battery manages to push out 14 hours of talk time on 2G while 3G time is just 5 hrs, 46 hours of music time and a whopping 840 hours of standby time. The Symbian Anna OS is at least very efficient at saving battery life. The memory on hand is just 512MB with a MicroSD option and a free 4GB MicroSD card so you can rest assured you have some place to store all those music files. The RAM isn’t that high at just a meager 64MB but the OS seems to run fine on it considering it doesn’t multitask that much.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· Great design
· 6 colors to choose from
· 46hrs of music listening time
· Free 4GB MicroSD card
· 10 free games
For Cons:
· Not that many apps or games
· More video format support would be great
· No 3G
Verdict
Let’s be clear, Nokia Asha 500 cannot compete with most of the phones in the under Rs.5000 range. Rivals Micromax Bolt D320 and Samsung Z1 Tizen blow the Nokia Asha 500 out of the water with their specs and value alone. The only way this phone can compete is if true Nokia fans buy it. Other than that it only excels in its vibrant and colorful looks which admittedly is something fresh in the long line of similar looking smartphones that have flooded the market. If you want a phone that just does the job and gives you great music support then just get this and don’t look back.
