The front of the phone is flat, with back, home and menu touch screen buttons built in to the glass at the bottom. At the top there is the Huawei logo, speaker and front facing camera in the top left corner. The volume rocker and lock screen button are located on the left side, with a 3.5mm audio jack on the top of the phone. On the rear of the phone is the 5MP camera, with the Huawei logo situated just underneath. The back snaps off quite easily to allow insertion of your sim card or SD card.
OS and Tech
The device runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which allows easy customisation of your home screens and a host of widgets to add in yourself. Jelly Bean is a great operating system to use is very intuitive and simple to get used to.
Camera and Multimedia
There are two cameras on the Ascend Y600. Firstly a small 0.3MP camera on the front of the phone, and secondly a much larger 5MP camera on the reverse. The main camera is more than adequate for the majority of photos and videos you may be taking, but unfortunately, the phone lacks an LED flash which means that the camera is really let down if used in low light. It also has an MP3/WAV/eAAC+ player, MP4 player, document viewer and photo viewer and editor.
Battery and Memory
The Huawei Ascend Y600 has a 2100 mAh battery and provides the phone with enough charge to last for around a day to a day and a half, provided it isn’t undergoing heavy use. The large 5 inch screen can be a large drain on the battery, but even under heavy use, it should last around half a day. The processor for the phone has 512MB of RAM which is plenty for the majority of applications associated with everyday use. The built in 2GB of storage is also more than enough for most people, and the option is there to add in an extra 32GB of storage through the use of microSD card.
Pros and Cons:
For Pros:
● Sleek design
● Good screen size
● Good OS
● Affordable handset
For Cons:
● Small processor
● Poor front facing camera quality
● No flash
Verdict:
Another clever little handset from Huawei targeting the lower end of the Smartphone market. The Android OS is a big plus for this phone, and its ease of use really makes it something to consider. While you will notice the difference between this device and higher end makes from Sony and Samsung, for what you are paying, this is actually a bit of a bargain.
