The well-known electronic company TCL technologies have entered the market of smart phones with the brand ALCATEL. It’s a public company originating from Hong Kong. It’s considered one of the top ten mobile companies. It’s known for providing the user with attractive, user friendly mobiles.
Features and Specifications:
It’s a touch screen smart phone like any other phone in today’s market. It supports dual SIM inclusive of CDMA and GSM. The GSM operating frequency is of 900/1800/1900 and the CDMA operating frequency is of 800/1900. Both the SIM need to be micro SIM. This phone has the additional feature of support from Reliance with 6 months unlimited data.
Design and Quality:
The display is a FWVGA i.e. 480*584 with 16M colors. The touch screen is capacitive with the feature of multi-touch. The screen size is 4.5 inches which is less as compared to other contemporaries in the same price range. The design is very common has nothing unique in it. The dimensions of this mobile are 125*45*10.1 mm. It is one of the lightest mobiles weighing just 145 grams.
OS and Tech:
This mobile runs on the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). This is an outdated OS nowadays with the launch of KitKat and Ice Cream Sandwich. The processor provided 1.2GHz dual core with a very weak RAM of 512 MB. This processor with an outdated OS leads to a sluggish performance of the mobile.
Camera and Multimedia:
The mobile has only one camera that is placed at rear. This sole camera is only 2.0 MP with digital zoom. The video capture feature is also available but basically with 2.0 MP, you cannot expect a very good video recording. It records video at resolution of 720p * 15fps / FWVGA @ 30 fps. ALCATEL has not provided a secondary camera in this mobile. It supports all kinds of audio and video formats.
Battery and Memory:
Battery is 1500mAH. This battery provides a talk time of 7.5 hours on 2G and up to 4 hours on 3G. The stand by time provided is massive 400 hours on 2G and up to 392 hours on 3G. The internal memory is mediocre placed at 4GB. This should be minimum 8GB as compared to other smart phones. As observed very commonly in other mobiles, this phone too has expandable memory up to 32GB.
Other Features:
This mobile has G Sensor and proximity Sensor already loaded in it. It also supports Wi-Fi, Mobile tethering. It has the feature of GPS with A-GPS Gen 8. GPRS and EDGE technologies are also available in this mobile.
PROS:
1. ALCATEL being the brand launched by TCL technologies gives an impression of a trusted brand to go for.
2. Good support for CDMA users.
3. Good price.
CONS:
1. Very poor camera.
2. Less internal memory.
3. Weak processor with a not so power packed RAM.
VERDICT:
ALCATEL has launched this mobile in the Indian Market with the aim of providing a user friendly and attractive device. But, they fail in doing so. First of all, the design is not so attractive being a simple common design. The processor provided is not powerful and along with the small 512 MB RAM, the device is very sluggish in performance. The OS provided too is Jelly Bean which is outdated. The camera provided is a sole camera at rear that too of just 2.0 MP. This does not live up to the expectations of any user. Internal memory is just 4GB which is insufficient in this world of large numbers of applications, games and music. Though, this mobile is placed at a very low price, it fails to live up to the expectations of a user. The check out these two phones as well: Samsung Galaxy Star Pro and Lenovo A369i.
