Asus has launched many smartphone in market which are taken as surprise by the users. The ZenFone 5 is a mid-range phone which is a new phone in Asus recent launches. The phone has the capacity to attract users as it has good specifications and nice design under an affordable price. The phone looks stunning in first go and looks nice while carrying in hand since the features and specifications it has been provided with are also not very disappointing. So this is a sort of treat for the mobile lovers in a good price range.

Features and Specifications

The screen of the phone is large of 5-inch having capacitive touch screen technology and 16M colors. The screen has been given protection from scratches with Gorilla Glass 3. The OS provided in here is Android v4.3 Jelly Beans but can also be upgraded to Android v4.4.2 KitKat and the processor is of 1.6GHz dual core. The phone has two variations, one has 1GB of RAM and the other has 2GB of RAM. The same both variations also vary in internal storage capacity, one has 8GB and the other has 16GB of storage. Both of which can be expandable up to 64GB using microSD card. The back camera has 8MP having LED flash and geo-tagging features. The front camera is 2MP used nicely for fallacies. The battery here is 2110mAh Li-Po which is non-removable. Connectivity features included are GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB, Wi-Fi and GSM.

Design and Quality

The design of the phone is similar to the Zenbook series and this can be noted by a brushed metallic trim towards the very bottom. The design is very simple. The set has been launched in very attractive colors. The weight of the phone is quiet much and weighing 145g and the set is dual SIM. The display of the set is quite vibrant and gives little colors resolution. The build material is good quality plastic and plastic is also used for the chassis. The back has matte finish but the scratches are made very much visible. Buttons are very nice placing and the screen even works nice under bright sunlight. The design of the phone is inspiring though the performance of the set is not that inspiring. The build is strong and gives a premium look. The set is thinner at the edges and thicker in the center and fits perfectly in palm. The power and volume buttons are also have silver linings. There is a little gap between the silver lining towards the bottom of the screen and the screen itself which allows the collection of dirt there which is hard to clean.

OS and Tech

The OS is Android v4.3 Jelly Beans but it has been promised by the company that an upgrade to KitKat will be provided to it soon but yet we don’t find any upgraded version of it available. The Asus has also introduced its exclusive Zen UI for this smartphone as this was only provided to its tablets. Since the OS is old, but still it provides smooth performance but a few times performance lags have been observed as the processor is also of low capacity which may not very well support the OS.

Camera and Multimedia

The back 8MP camera is accompanied with LED flash suing PixelMaster technology of the company. Though the performance of the camera is not very inspiring but it is not bad at all. Sometimes the results of the pictures look too over sharpened. This is not considered as bad camera but not the best as well as many mid-range smartphone under good prices come up with better performing cameras. The phone also has low light detection mode which helps in getting crispy picture under low light and increases light sensitivity supporting the LED light along with reducing the noise. The front camera does very nicely for the selfies and video calls. Video recording with the back camera is also a failure of Asus ZenFone 5. Though the phone can record 1080p videos but the continuous shakiness and lags may disappoint users.

Battery and Memory

The battery life is good here which is 2110mAh.the battery can easily last for about two days under normal use like browsing internet, social media, sending emails, playing games, making calls etc. The RAM can be either 1GB or 2GB depending on the phone specification as the set offers in two ranges and the internal storage is also of two ranges, either 8GB or 16GB but of the variations can be expanded up to 64GB.
