The display of the phone is 5-inch having IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 16M colors. It has 1GB RAM and 8GB internal memory which can be extensible up to 32GB through microSD card slot. It comes with two cameras, an 8MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front camera for video chats. The OS it operates on is Android v4.4.4 KitKat which may be upgraded to v5.0 Lollipop. It runs on 1.2GHz Quad-core processor. It has a battery life of 2070mAh Li-ion which is non-removable. The battery is not that powerful to support long time use.

Design and Quality

Motorola Moto G 2nd Generation has been designed on the basis of reviews collected from feedback from the original Motorola Moto G. It comes with a much larger screen of 5-inch, better performing speakers and dual SIM card slots. But this new smartphone doesn’t support 4G and is limited to 2G and 3G. The design of the phone is same as it was in original Moto G. No plastic or metal has been used for its construction and feels cheap. Buttons along with ports are placed at the same old location as were found in original Moto G. The back of the phone is removable where dual SIM card slots with microSD card slot exist. It is bigger in width and height than its predecessors and weighs under 150g. So it feels lighter when in hand and quite balanced. It comes in two colors: black and white but different colored rear shells are also available. The screen of the phone is great with perfect colors and provides nice viewing angles. The brightness of the screen is decent.

OS and Tech

The OS this smartphone operates on is Android v4.4.4 KitKat which is expected to be upgrade to v5.0 Lollipop. Even the v4.4.4 is powerful enough to run all Android apps. The phone is equipped with numerous latest technologies like for camera it has Geo-tapping, Touch focus, face detection which makes the phone rather exclusive.

Camera and Multimedia

Even though this is a mediocre phone but it has upgraded cameras having 8MP rear and 2MP front camera. The LED flash light is provided with rear camera. The video quality of the camera is not very appreciating. The camera is though easy to use with panorama and HDR mode and it can be tapped to focus the scene. The HDR mode can be set on and off. The pictures are of good quality having quite a nice amount of picture details. The front camera is used for video chats and video conferencing which is of better quality. In general it can be concluded that camera in Moto G 2nd Gen is upgraded and better than its previous versions.

Battery and Memory

The battery life provided here is much better. For video playback, it provided more than 9hrs battery life when the screen is set of half brightness. So battery life in Moto G 2nd Gen is also got upgraded than its predecessors. Under normal conditions, this phone can be used for day long use very comfortably. The RAM is 1GB and the internal storage provided here is 8GB which is extensible up to 32GB using microSD card slot.

Verdict

The Motorola Moto G 2nd Generation is an amazing device. Having a large screen, much improved speakers, and better camera makes this device a worth buying. It is quite within one’s budget. But the lack of 4G and no processor upgrades along with lacking of boost in screen resolution which may bring a little hurdle in its fame. This phone though can give a tougher competition to its competitors but there are lower priced smartphone also available if looking at the discrepancies in this phone. One has to consider every aspect before investing in any smartphone.
