Samsung, the name which brought smart phones to masses with its minimalistic approach to features to give a good user experience at low prices. This is why it may seem that Samsung Mobile phones don’t have as much features as the other contenders but Samsung puts in a lot of effort to make sure that the little features it does have do work properly every time. The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 is no exception, though not heavily loaded with features this phone still has more than enough wizardry put into it that will help you go through your day yet at the end of the day it’s still a Samsung, so you know the phone is going to do that the next day as well.

Features and Specifications:

The phone has 3.5 inch TFT touch screen with 320x480 resolution which is obviously won’t be supporting any Full HD video streaming but for the price range the screen is pretty respectable with its 165 pixel per inch pixel density. Further on the phone has dual sim capabilities supporting standby on dual sim as well. The phone sadly lacks 3G connectivity. The phone has a single core 1 GHz processor and a 512MB ram with 4GB rom for applications and other data. If you need more space for your money the phone also comes equipped with micro SD card slot which can support up to 32GBs. The camera of the phone is 2 mega-pixels sensor and can record videos at 480p, whereas it does lack a secondary camera up front.

Design and Quality:

The phone is 11.8 mm thick and as mentioned before has 3.5inch screen with screen to body ratio at 55.5%. Up front the phone is mostly covered by the screen with the navigation soft key at the bottom left and right sides and the home screen button in the middle. On top of the screen there’s the slit for the speaker and the Samsung logo underneath it. On the backside of the phone there’s nothing much going on and the back cover is plain with the camera at top left side with the loudspeaker slits towards its right and the Samsung logo is spotted in the middle of the back cover. The 3.5 mm audio jack is located on the top side of the phone and the USB port at the bottom. On the sides of the phone we the power button on the right side and the volume rocker is on the left side of the phone.

OS and Technology:

The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 is loaded with android 4.4.2 KitKat giving it customizable UI and a smooth user experience though the lack of RAM and processor speed will slow down certain apps and there might be a hint of lag when switching from one app to another. Though the newer androids have gotten the update of the Lollipop available to them, it is yet quite unsure as to when the Samsung’s smartphones will also move on to the Lollipop, but the KitKat seems to do the job just fine for now.

Camera and Multimedia:

The phone comes equipped with a 2 megapixels primary camera and it lacks a secondary camera, but the primary camera has the ability to record videos of up to 480p. On the other hand camera has the usual Samsung photo app which allows photo and video editing but nothing surprising here since the cameras quality is not what you call extraordinary.

Battery and Memory:

The Samsung Galaxy has a 1300 mAh battery, it may seem less but since the phone has a minimalistic approach in its engineering it can last you a whole day of average usage with calls and music playback. The phone has 512 MB ram and 4 GB rom. If the 4 GB is not enough for you, you can always use the micro SD card slot which can support up to a 32 GB micro SD card. The phone not a good multimedia phone can still provide ample battery timing with music playback.

Verdict:

All in all the Samsung Galaxy Star 2 is quite a nice phone keeping the price range in mind but for the same price you might also consider the Micromax Bolt which or more or less a better phone, but if you want a phone that lasts with you then definitely Samsung is the one for you.
