Features and Specifications
The phone is 5 inches of pure awesomeness, offering 16 M colors at 441 ppi pixel density. The phone screen is capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. The chipset used in the phone is the famous Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 using Quad-Core 2.5 GHz Krait 400 processor. The Adreno 330 GPU is also impressive and runs all the games with its full glory. The device weighs only 151g and this can be the reason of using plastic build over metallic build. For a 5 inch device, the weight is less but the trade-off is the build-quality. The internal memory of the device is 16 or 32 GB (based on the version you buy) and can be upgraded to 128 GB using the microSD slot. The phone hosts two cameras; the front 13 MP camera with autofocus and dual-LED flash and the 5 MP front camera capable of recording HD quality videos at 30fps. The latest Android OS JellyBean is used as the OS of the phone. The phone supports basic connectivity such as GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
Design and Quality
The Design of the Butterfly 2 is the mixture of Butterfly S and the M8. IT resembles more on the M8 on design aspect and picks up the plastic build of the butterfly S. The front-facing speakers are prominent and mix well with the glass of the phone. The phone comes with JBL headphones which are classy in nature. The quality of the device is mediocre keeping the plastic build in mind. The plastic build surely takes away a lot of charms compared to phones in the same price range using premium metal finish.
OS and Tech
The Operating System of the device is Android KitKat 4.4.2. The Android OS provides all the latest functionality and performance for great User Experience. The operating system UI is HTC's Sense 6 UI build on top of the OS. The device comes with Motion Launch features and BlinkFeed. The hardware is compatible with the OS and capitalizes on the features without any performance drop. The phone is IP57-rated dust and water resistance.
Camera and Multimedia
Similar to M8 and other butterfly devices, the phone offers 2 cameras; the front camera and the rear camera. The rear camera is 13 MP which is an improvement over the last 4 MP (Ultrapixel) camera. The photos taken from the device are vibrant and have more detail. The performance is impressive in low-light and the phone offers dual-camera system. The dual-camera system is impressive and can be used to change the focus system in a real photo. This will help in editing and completely changing the photo. Multimedia capacity of the phone is impressive as well, capable of playing HD quality videos without any lag. The device supports popular audio and video format and run them without any error.
Battery and Memory
The Battery of the phone is 3200 mAh. The battery can easily last more than a day for casual users. Heavy users can make it last for half a day or so. The internal memory of the phone can be either 16 GB or 32 GB, depending on the phone version bought by the user. The phone memory can be increased up to 128 GB using micro SD slot.
Pros and Cons
For Pros:
· Powerful Processor
· Good Quality Camera
· External memory upgradeability
For Cons:
· Build quality
Verdict
HTC Butterfly 2 could have been better if the premium metal finish is used. The lack of premium feel can seriously hamper its sales. Otherwise, the phone is a gem offering a powerful quad-core processor with sufficient RAM and an excellent camera to go with.
