Features and Specifications

The phone is powered by 1.3GHz Quad-core processor and is run by Android v4.4 KitKat. The processor power is less which may be experienced in form of performance lags in few heavy apps. The RAM is carries is limited to 1GB which may bring some issues. The internal memory is 8GB extendible to 32GB by the use of microSD card slot. The screen is large of 5.5-inch giving 1280x720p resolution. Two cameras are provided in it. It has 13MP rear camera with LED flash and a 5MP front camera. The connectivity features here include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G and LTE. The battery is 2200mAh which is quite large enough for mediocre phone.

The slim and smart design of the phone is very attractive and fascinating. The phone special feature is that it supports 18 regional languages along with gesture support that helps in opening of an app with already defined motion sign “C” present on display. The edges of the phone are not curved but the overall look and feel of the phone is impressive having silvery back providing perfect grip. Speaker is located at the top of the screen. The buttons are elegantly placed on sides. The phone is even though having large screen but it is easy to reach the side button with single finger or thumb.

OS and Tech

OS here is powerful Android v4.4 KitKat providing higher flexibility of multitasking. The OS needs full support of processor and RAM in order to perform all the functionalities in full rigor. But in this case, both the processor and the RAM are limited which may bring some performance discrepancies for which OS cannot be blamed.

Camera and Multimedia

The added benefit in Obi S551 Hornbill is that it comes with 13MP back and 5MP front camera. Both cameras have higher capacities for a mediocre phone and this is hardly seen in any phone having similar specifications. The back camera is assisted by LED flash and it does give better quality pictures without jerk feelings. The LED flash works perfectly fine in low light and gives reasonable acceptable video and picture quality in low light. The video quality is fine and records video in full HD. The front 5MP camera works perfect for video calls and video chats. No phone has been seen with mediocre features but this much heavy front camera, Obi S551 Hornbill did it.

The battery it offers is 2200mAh which is much higher than other phones having similar features. This much battery is quite enough to give handsome use of mobile whole day without needing to recharge it. This much battery gives full entertainment of enjoying videos or games in full HD screen. The RAM here is limited to 1GB which is apparently less and may suffer performance bottleneck. The internal storage is 8GB and all the apps are installed in internal storage but this can be extended to raise the memory up to 32GB and this can be done through the slot provided for microSD card.

Verdict

Obi S551 Hornbill has many added features which makes it a plus over its competitors. The screen size and the bigger enough front camera are the two exclusive features which are hardly find in phone of similar features at affordable prices. Hats off to Obi for this genuine effort. Little attention needs to be given on RAM and processor capacity which will make this phone an ideal choice for mobile lovers. Even in this form, the phone is acceptable.
