Features and Specifications

Phone has 5.5-inch large screen with IPS display technology providing 1280x720p resolution. It is powered by powerful 1.7GHz Octa-core processor and 2GB RAM. This really enhances the performance. The internal memory is 8GB and is able to be extended up to 32GB. It comes with two cameras. The front camera is of 5MP used for fallacies and the back camera is of 13MP for normal video recording and photography. It is a dual SIM handset that runs on Android v4.4.2 Jelly Jeans OS. The battery is excellent here giving 3200mAh battery. The connectivity options include 2G/3G, GPRS, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB internet.

Design and Quality

The design of the phone is very ordinary. This phone seems as enlarged version of Redmi 1S. The three capacitive navigation keys reside below the 5.5-inch large screen. On the top of the large screen is the speaker and the front facing 5MP camera. The back is made up of white glossy plastic and the back cover hides tow two SIM card slots along with removable battery and microSd card slot. The set is indeed large enough to carry but the edges are made rounded for the set to be easily handled. The weight of the phone is 199g which makes it too heavy and the build material is not very good mostly it is cheap plastic. But the grip it provides is solid in hand. The display screen is though large but doesn’t provide complete HD even though it works fine. The viewing angles provided by it are perfect. Under direct sunlight, it would be tough to operate the phone but if the brightness of the screen is set to low then it is easy to handle it under sunlight.

OS and Tech

The performance of the phone is good at low price. The OS it runs on is though old i.e. Android V4.4.2 Jelly Beans but it is super coated with MIUI 5 which to some extent hides the version of OS. But the company needs to update the OS to Android v4.4.2 KitKat. The 1.7GHz processor and the 2GB RAM is perfect enough to give excellent performance of the phone over the Android v4.4.2 Jelly Beans OS.

Camera and Multimedia

Xiaomi never compromise on camera at all. The camera performance is really good here as well. Thought the camera is not fast but it doesn’t disappoint user at all. The camera is capable enough to take good macro as well as HDR shots. Even under low light the camera gives fine quality pictures. The front camera works decent too for the video calls. The video recording with Xiaomi Redmi Note is a fun and it generates good quality shake proof videos.

Battery and Memory

The battery here is marvelous. It comes up with 3200mAh battery which does a perfect job under heavy use even. Under normal use, it stays for whole day long or two. It is perfect for full on gaming continuously for many hours and watching videos under full screen brightness and the battery still will last for the whole day. Though the battery gives excellent support to the heavy screen and other features but this much battery does takes too much time to get recharged completely. The internal storage is 8GB which can easily be extended up to 32GB with the help of microSD card slot available under the back cover. The internal memory though seems less as the apps need to be installed on the internal storage in order to be run on the phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note provides excellent value for the users’ money. Though here are few drawbacks like the heaviness of the phone and the use of old version of android OS, rest of the features are far better than normal including the camera, processor and the RAM capacity. All these features make this phone a good choice for the mobile lovers if one can easily compromise over the OS and the size of the phone. This is considered above average phone over all.
