Features and Specifications

HTC Desire 516C is another mid-range smartphone having 1.2GHz quad core snapdragon processor and 1GB of RAM. The screen is as usual big because most of the mid-range phones are concentrating more on the displays. This is also having 5inch large screen so it falls under phablet category. It is a Dual SIM device. The rear camera is 5MP along with flash light and the front camera is 2MP to be used for fallacies. The battery here is 1950mAh while the connectivity options are 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Edge and GPRS. The internal storage is 4GB but users need not to get upset with this as it can be extended further up to 32GB. The OS giving it platform to run is Android v4.3 Jelly Beans which is though an old OS.

Design and Quality

The design of the phone is very simple but attractive as well. The weight of the phone is 160g making it heavier device but this much weight can be easily managed. The thickness of the phone is 9.7mm and feels good in hand. The back of the phone provides good grip and is not slippery at all. The edges of the phone are curved. The construction material used is plastic but it is of high quality. There is microUSB port at the top of the set while the volume rocker is towards right and the power button towards left but the size of the buttons are quite small and feel hard to press. Three navigation keys are located at the bottom of the display. The display screen is not very fantastic but looks nice. The display of this device is much better than those of other mid-range smartphone in market.

OS and Tech

The device runs Android v4.3 Jelly Beans and on top of it HTC has provided its own interface and Blink Feed which makes the device more user friendly. Even though the OS is old and performance lags may be observed at times but it is sufficient enough to provide quality multitasking along with running almost all Android apps. HTC needs to upgrade its OS to KitKat.

Camera and Multimedia

The rear camera gives acceptable quality picture and no more can be expected from the device is low price range. The autofocus feature of the back camera does its good nicely but it does miss in making perfect focus of objects at times. Pictures taken in Panorama mode were quite better than any other mode. Brightness of the video and photos are also not impressive and the colors turned out to be little artificial. The front camera is a complete failure from HTC. It doesn’t even capture the correct image and is not able to focus completely. Camera department here needs much attention.

Battery and Memory

The battery life is better than what was expected of it as it can easily last for a whole day. The battery even performed decently even under heavy web browsing and for screen to remain on for longer. The RAM didn’t support the heavy use of the mobile. Heavy games and videos are not fully supported by 1GB RAM. The internal storage is also limited to 4GB though extension to it is provided but since apps need to be installed on internal storage before being run so 4GB may prove bottleneck.

Verdict

HTC Desire 516C is overall a nice product. The look and feel of the device is premium along with low price and few very nice features. The phone provides nice grip and feels comfortable when in hand. For the low price, the features offered are acceptable but again there are device under low price having better features than this one especially the camera feature. Camera here is not very good and this could be a feature when users may overlook the stunning design and large screen of the mobile. Low RAM and old OS may also prove something resistive for the sale of this device.
