A recently launched product from Micromax is Canvas Xpress A99. This is an economical brand from Micromax. The phone has nice features but it is categorized under mediocre smartphone category. This release is considered as a nice one from the previous releases of Micromax. This is quite a recent release so it’s the performance and features are yet to be evaluated to make a final verdict about the product. The look and feel of the device show that it has a future and users will definitely attract towards it for having reasonable features at very affordable price.

Features and Specifications

The phone operates on a latest Android OS v4.4.2 KitKat. The processor here is fit for a mediocre phone like Canvas Xpress A99 and has a power of 1.3GHz quad-core. The screen is reasonably large of 4.5-inch along with mediocre battery life of 1950mAh Li-ion. The RAM is 1GB and the internal built-in storage is 8GB out of which almost 6GB is available for the users. Memory can be enlarged up to 32GB through microSD card. The cameras are also mediocre with 5MP back camera along with LED flash and a front 0.3MP VGA camera for fallacies. The connectivity features include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and microUSB. The fantastic quality is that at an affordable price, the phone can support dual SIM at a time.

Design and Quality

The stunning black look of the phone is very impressive. The edges are not curved but look elegant. The phone comes with 4.5inch large screen offering nice viewing angles with 480x854p resolution. The appeal is unique having complete front panel while the back cover is black. The total weight of the phone is 143g which makes it quite easy to be carried in pockets or in hands. At the bottom of the screen are the three navigation touchscreen keys and rest of the buttons are located at both sides.

OS here is Android v4.4 KitKat which is very much latest OS and provides excellent multitasking. All the apps are efficiently supported by this OS though the RAM and the processor are not that much powerful but still they support it to give good quality performance. Since the phone is a mid-range phone so nothing more can be expected from the company about the enhancement of the RAM and processor capacity so whatever is provided is working pretty good.

The back camera which is of 5MP and is the main camera of the phone and provides full digital zoom while capturing pictures along with LED flash and autofocus feature. Though the quality of pictures is not very good but they are acceptable. Day night pictures do carry some noise as the camera can’t hide shakiness but the overall performance of the phone is very nice. The camera is capable of recording videos. The front camera is workable nicely for video calls.

Battery and Memory

1950mAh battery is quite enough for the mid-range phone like Micromax Xpress A99. The company claims that this much battery can provide 7hrs of talk time and standby time of 240hrs. Even if this is true, so this is a wonderful device then. Upon testing, the device is capable enough to last for whole day under moderate use but for heavy use, this requires charging frequently. Since the OS is latest so it is capable enough to run heavy apps but the battery may not support heavy use of the phone for whole day The RAM is 1GB though it is low but it is enough for the device and the internal storage is 8GB which is flexible and can be raised up to 32GB.

Micromax Canvas Xpress A99 is very impressive in looks and the dual SIM feature makes it more attractive. The price is affordable and is in reach of every mobile user. Few features are attractive like latest OS and very reliable configuration all packed in a single device is though a nice mix in a mid-range device but there are phone having better features at moderate prices especially the camera feature of this phone is not very impressive and mostly people prefer to use mobiles for video recording and photography so this may not be a good device for those users.
